I have a huge Boost Creep issue and I have decided to go with an external WG. I am a fan of buying things once... so I am inclined to buying the 44mm Tial with the 1bar spring. A local DSM'er is telling me that he thinks a 44mm is to big for the B16G. What do you guys think... is the only drawback on going so big that I will make a ton of noise even at low boost? Or are there other consequences. I know price is also a difefrence here... but I found a new 44mm for the sam eprice a 38 or 40 would run me...

I would go with a 38mm for that turbo. I have used a 38mm on MUCH bigger turbo's and had no boost creep issues whatsoever. Just run a dump tube out of the engine bad to exspell any unwanted hot exhaust gases.

I don't believe that at all.
Me either. Ive heard too many stories of proper porting solving peoples creep problems to think you need to step up to an external gate, especially with the 34mm flapper already in place.

Port the inlet near the wastegate entrance, and blast zone. Get behind the gate arm also to insure that the flapper opens completely. What boost are you trying to run? Have you ported anything?

I agree. I used to have an EVO III that would creep to the area of 20psi. I took it off, ported around the wastegate area and then I was able to hold 9psi rock solid to redline. This was also with the stock flapper, not the band-aid 34mm gate.

38mm should be fine for your turbo. If you have a big 16g and you need a 44mm wg to run your desired boost level, then you need to run more boost. (granted that you have the supporting mods to run that level)

In all honesty i had a Evo III turbo with a 34mm flapper and it was ported many times by me, yet it still crept. I could never control the boost on that turbo. If i were to ever do it again, i would go with a 38mm tial and never look back. Much more wastegate control, and it seals much better than a stock flapper.

save yourself the hassle of taking the turbo on and off three times and still having to do it again now that i decided to go external.

Yep thats basically what i did. I took mine off about 3 times to do porting on the Turbo/Evo III o2 housing, and i still crept. But i ended up selling the turbo before i got a External Gate.

BTW, you live really close to me, who are you ? ROFL
