420A Thermostat housing weird plug

on my 1999 Mitsubishi eclipse 420a non turbo engine right at the thermostat housing there is the coolant temperature sensor and than on the left hand side there is a weird plug with what looks like a sensor i can not find it anywhere in the haynes repair manual

There are 2 sensors there. Both of them are coolant temperature sensors. The smaller one is the one for the gauge. The larger one is the one that sends a signal to the ecu.

Thank u i was assuming it was a sensor i just wasnt sure.
