A few months ago I installed a new stant fail safe 190 degree thermostat. I recently got the new motor installed with the same thermostat and I am running around 210 degrees in town and about 215 or 216 on the highway.

Is that too hot for our engines to run? Is it time to install maybe a 180 degree thermostat? I have a newer aluminum radiator and new water pump. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Those temps seem normal for a 180* thermostat. Are you still running the stock fans, or have you switched to slim fans?

Any reason why you didn't try to fine something in the 160-170* range?

Another way you can try and cool temps if your not running a/c. Remove the a/c condensor, and get more air to the radiator see if that helps temps.

Stop posting these suggestions. There's no need to pull the A/C to get the temps lower.

I'm running stock fans. I haven't tried the lower thermostats yet because I'm afraid that my temps might get too low on the highway. So far they seem fine.

Tomorrow I should be able to find a 170 degree thermostat, maybe clean the 180 up real nice and return it. I'm just afraid that I might be using a bandaid approach to this for maybe having too small of a radiator or some other problem.

Just the condesor in front of the radiator to increase air flow, not the whole a/c unit was just a suggestion if he wants cooler temps and doesn't use his a/c unit. Just trying to be helpful. :/

Too small radiator? Do you have a half size core one? what aluminum radiator did you get? Checked if fans working?

So after a day of driving around I have found out a few more things. Driving about 75 mph on the highway my temps sit around 210* with a 180* thermostat if I'm driving away from the wind. If I'm driving into the wind at 75 mph, the temps sit around 200*. When I get off of the highway, temps go to 220 and sit there til the fans cool the radiator down. This is with 65* outside temps. I can't imagine when it is 105 in the summer...and all of this is without any boost.

My radiator is a small single row aluminum with plastic ends. I am thinking about going with a 3 row all aluminum radiator. Does anybody run 3 row radiators?
