yes, hard pipe = good.
BUT. I was checking out the vfaq for the dave brode uicp and well it really doesnt look like its anything better than whats already there. I figured since most people exclaim about the hardpipe goodness, that the rubber hose connecting from the plastic pipe the bov sits in to the throttlebody would be well replaced with a HARDpipe, rather than juts get reused.

While the stock uicp is plastic, its still rigid. I don't think I fully understand the benefit of replacing that part if the rubber/mesh hose is going to be kept.

feel free to enlighten me!

i only replaced the skinny plastic peice that goes under the fuse box. Also did this because I wanted a 1g bov flange. the rest of the stock ic piping is in there and I dont see a need to replace it on my car

The main reason to replace your UPI is one, to get rid of the HORRID restriction under the fuse box, and two to smooth out the intake flow, as well as three, to put a BOV flange on there. While not expensive, and you cant really tell that much of a difference at first, later on in your modding you will need it. the stock woven intercooler pipe type stuff is inefficient. Go ahead and spring for the whole UIP.

Mod it right, or mod it twice

so what u say, the stock woven type is inefficient, how does it inefficient?? i would really like to know more, since i will be putting in my supra smic soon, but not sure if i should replace all the pipe, or just the restrictive part of the pipe.

thx

the rubber hose will flex at WOT which slows down the air.... a hard pipe has no give and get's the air flowing faster and smoother
