Testing the power steering pump? Loud sounds!

Is there any way to test if the power steering pump is bad? The reason I ask is that when I turn the wheel, even an inch, I get this incredibly loud, heads turn, ungodly sound. It is somewhere between metal/metal and metal/loose hose and baby on airplane. The power steering fluid is full, the belt is tight, and I only get the sound when I turn the steering wheel. It is not a sometimes sound, it is an everytime I turn the wheel sound.

Is it a creaking sounds because then it is probably your tie rod.

Yeah, the more I thought about it, it prob. has nothing to do with the power steering.

Just stick your head next to the pump and listen while someone turns the wheel. If it's a whining type of noise, then your pump is probably bad.
