Hey guys i know this has been gone over shit tons of times so im going to make this short. block tdc. TDC position in pairs? meaning 1 and 4 up at the same time. I didn't tdc the block before i put the head on fresh motor build every thing i new. 92 1g block and head with 2.3 stroker. So i just set it to tdc mark on oil pump and than install cams and time the motor. thanks for the help.

Im asking just about the block the cams are not in the head. TDC position in pairs Witch is what im asking is that when piston 1 is up 4 is all the way up at the same time. So it dosen't matter as long as its on the tdc mark the block is ok.

Correct as far as the block is concerned. If your on the mark your at TDC #1 and # 4 TDC and it does not matter if it's 180 off on the block side as long as the mark is lined up.

Personally I do not put the head on with the block at TDC. I set the pistons down in the bore a little bit. Line the cams up and then bring the block to TDC.

General rule of thumb. Use 1 and 4. Then you can make sure all the other pulleys can line up with their respective marks/arrows. TDC the crank on pistons 1 and 4. THEN line up the arrow for the oil pump with it's mark on the front case. This needs to be done correctly in order to make sure the balance shaft is rotated in it's correct position as well. This this doesn't matter ONLY in case of the balance shaft being removed. After the bottom end is correct, set the cams to where the cam dowel pins are pointed in the 12 o'clock position. Then use the tick marks on the cam gears to set those. Remember to refer to the "peak and valley" designation in order to set those properly.

Good luck.

Thanks guys. I was going nuts of the Tec on block checked like 400 times going man there the same level. Balance shafts are gone. And it has a ble so timing belt is easy mode. Thanks again guys for the help.

With the balance shafts eliminated you only need to worry about the crankshaft gear and the Cam gears.. Line the crank gear up with its respectable mark and the cam gears with theirs, then get the auto tensioner to read its correct gap and you're golden. I always just line up the balance shaft marks for safe measure. I feel it makes things easier.. More consistant..
