tap at 4000rpm

for the past week my car has been tapping at 4000rpm and above. there is nothing for about 20 minutes, car sounds normal. then it begins and stays till the car is turned off and cool. didnt know if then lifters are crapping out or what.

Sounds like lifters are out. You say for about 20 minutes everything is okay? That leads me to believe the thickness of the cool oil is keeping things going but as soon as the oil gets warm it thins out and the lifters are starting to crap out with the thin oil. Just buy a set of revised topline lifters, change them, then change your oil and be done with it.
