Tach drops to zero on hard acceleration

Okay i am not really a newbie but i couldnt find where to post this so here goes. I have a 90 NT automatic talon and when i nail the throttle to pass people or go up a hill my tach drops to zero. I tried to look it up on alldata but they do not have any info on what actually controls the tach so if you have any ideas please let me know. I know its not really that important but i like everything to be working on my car.

DOES IT DROP WITH ENGINE SPEED OR JUST THE NEEDLE DROPS? in that case then id say a bad tach or wiring...

I had this problem, a few connectors under the hood were corroded and needed cleaned.

yeah the needle just drops. its only when i really get on it where the rpms would be over 4k. so if it is a wiring issue where under the hood does the tach reference its rpms?

i had a non turbo eclipse and my tach had went out... it turned out to be my cas... its on the right side of the valve cover... its black and cant miss it.. i would move it around and it would work but when i would hit a bump. it would start trippin... dont listen to me... let people tell you their opinions... it may be just a wiring problem... or you tach is going.... i just got myself a aftermarket one..!!!

well thanks for your suggestions. It isnt really important. I have a logger that tells me my rpms. so i really dont need my tach i just thought i would ask. Thanks for all the answers.
