My experience with pushing the T25:
I ran 15psi peak out of for about 9 months. Eventually, I decided to push it and really see what I could get out of it.
Without anything but an SAFCII to tune, I ended up just setting the MBC to 17psi. I took it to the 1/8 mile drags one day and just beat the hell out of it. This was one of the first times I've ran the car up to the redline. It was great off the line, but NOTHING up top. I think it held about 10psi at 7k RPM.
I must have done about 10 runs when I noticed that it wasn't brake boosting as well. I just kept running it. Eventually, I noticed I was only holding 5psi up top. Cars that I had crushed earlier in the day now had a fighting chance.
I probably put about 20 runs on it in a 3 1/2 hr time (only 12 cars at the track). As I pulled off the track, I heard this nice scraping sound. I pulled into a parking spot and popped the hood. It was coming from the turbo. I sat and brake boosted it in the parking lot and it just sounded nasty. I limped it the 53 miles home. It wasn't building boost until 3300 RPM.
It's now sitting in my closet. Every once in a while, I get it out to show people so they can laugh at how small it is, and at just how bad the shaft play is. One day I may tear it apart to see what's left of the bearings.
Moral of the story. The T25 turbos hate being beat on. Just put it on and keep the boost at a reasonable level. Anytime you miss the performance, just think of your new turbo you'll be getting.
