I'm in the middle of a 6 bolt swap on a 1997 gsx. I think n 97+ only the plug wires need to be flipped, however I'm running a 95 eprom ecu. Do I need to swap the injectors as well since on a 1995 I think both the plugs and injectors need to be swapped? I switched injectors so 2 is now 1 and 3 is now 4 and vice versa. firing order is 2341 right now. I'm going to try and start it in a few days ... just want to make sure that's correct. Thanks.

Well i have a 97 with the 95 eprom and the only thinng i changed were the wires. Think about what your doing. The firing order is different on the 95 so you can adjust the wires so they fire correctly with the injectors or you can switch your injectors so they spray when the plugs fire. You should only do one or the other not both. If you do both then your basically cancelling out the other if that makes sense.

hmm see that's what I thought at first too. Then I thought well maybe the order is wrong for both so the injectors spray reverse and the plugs are firing at the wrong time. Have you had yours running after the swap? Which rewire method did you use for the CAS? Now I know the firing order needs to be changed when putting a 95 ecu in a 97 car, so after the swap am I changing it back to stock ( 4123 ) or leaving it at 2341?

All you need to do is the wires. I'd suggest just swapping the blue wires on the back of the coil to make it easy. This way it seems stock, especially if you need to take it in to have it worked on by someone who does not know the car.

Guys...

Interestingly enough...I'm at the exact same point in my swap. I have a 97 GSX, that I am putting a complete 6 bolt motor in (it is the motor that came with a 16g and yellow injectors if that means anything different...), and my question is, I am using the 2g coil pack, and really, I am not sure if I need to swap wires, or injector plugs, or either/both. Could one of you guys that know for sure tell me which I need to do, and maybe be so kind as to educate me as to why I would need to do this? I'd love to know the correct answer, and also know why I had to do it....so I'll understand better.

Thank you
James

I'd like some response on this as well. I'm about ready to fire up my 6-bolt and I haven't touched the injectors yet. I am using a 2g coil pack and transistor and have just switched the spark plug wires at the coil pack, and am using the Magnus method for CAS wiring.

well this is the method I used for rewiring. I'm going to swap both the injectors and the plugs and see if it works. Plug order will be 2314 and injector 1 is swapped with 2 and 3 is swapped with 4. method 2

I just physically swapped my injector wires instead of swapping ecu pins. Should work either way I'm assuming.

so are you saying only swap injectors or swap plugs and injectors? Has anyone actually done this so we can all know which way is correct?!

when you put the ecu in you should have swapped htem so you'd need to swap them back (if i remember correctly) otherwise no....

but as far as injector swapped ... is it ok to jsut switch the harnesses instead of doing the ecu pins? I will just try 1 firing order for a few cranks, if it doesn't start I'll try the other one. Just want to make sure the injectors are definitly right.

the 95 and 96 cam sensors are opposite every other year sensor if you swap ecus or swap to the 1g cam sensor you have to change the injector and plug firing order or idle/part throttle will run like crap

That RRE page has all the info you need. I don't know if swapping harnesses will work, but if it does, according to the diagram, I think it goes like this (not just a swap):

-original #1 harness goes on #3 injector
-original #2 harness goes on #1 injector
-original #3 harness goes on #4 injector
-original #4 harness goes on #2 injector

Again, this should only be for 95/96 ecus without a 95/96 cas.

Guys,

So by reading all this, am I correct in saying, that with my 97 car, with the original 97 ECU, and a 6bolt longblock, that i use my original 2g coil pack, and i hook the injectors up just like they were from the factory, and I also run my plug wires the factory firing order, and do not need to modify my coil pack? so everything should be like factory> right?
by the way...i wired the crank sensor blue wire up to the cam sensor wire and had the plug for the cas so it pretty much looks factory.....

If I'm wrong, someone please tell me before I go to crankin the motor tonight and pass out in the floor....LOL
:p

yes that is correct .. I just saw that too. That's how I wired mine now and actually one of my friends did this swap not too long ago on a 1995 talon. He said to swap injectors ( you can just swap harnesses if you don't want to mess with ecu pins ) and swap the firing order as well.
