So whats up are they going to come out with a supercharger or what... i would love that on my 420a eclipse.... everyone will be like turbo?

nahhhhh supercharged

someone had a custom supercharger on there car yrs ago but the 420a had nothing but problems with it so he removed it. Either way turbo or if you get a working supercharger you will eventuly have to rebuild your engine.... the rings can't take the boost..........

yep ill believe that too cuz i just had intake and exhaust for a year straight of racing on some weekends and i blew my piston rings and misfired cuz the rings are suppose to keep air, fuel away from the oil and pistons... cuz tahts all i seen when i rebuilt my motor pistons fried

who said this was the hood ....

all i said was i had intake and exhaust, and i blew my motor because of too much compression from racing the motor..... and i fried the piston rings... causing oil air and fuel all mix together and making my spark plugs get filled with oil, basically makin my car misfire a cylynder or 2.... when i removed the head, my head was perfect, needed a new head gasket and piston rings....... so i basically found the problem that my piston rings were burned to hell.... so i went out got piston rings, head redone and new headgasket =)

now imagine if i put a supercharger... my opinion 420a motor's will not handle it

The intake and exhaust causing rings to go bad is about as likely as a 4G63 hybrid engine powering the next shuttle launch. With a blown T 25 to power it. And by the way, compression is not increased with RPM's.

THere is an aftermarket supercharger available currently for the 2.4 PT Cruiser, which is a blood relative of the 420A, correct?

kk what causes compression because i used to race all the time.. with my car and me downshfitng from 4th at 4500~5000 rpms to 3rd gear to around 6,600 and down .... isnt that building up compression?

Whether your engine is going fast, or going slow, if it is not forced induction, the compression does not change unelss you have a leak. When the engine is mopvie fast, the psitons travel just as far as they do when its going slower, the only way yo change compression is to force more air into it causing a higher compression of air, hence the need for a lower compression engine if its turbo, you need more room for the air that's being forced in. All in all, engine speed has nothing to do with engine compression.

Not only that but these motors respond to 8-10 psi of boost from a turbo kit without blowing up, so I doubt it was the intake and exhaust that caused the problem. The turbo kits do fine on these motors if fueled properly, without hurting the rings. And I believe that if you put a supercharger on the car running simmilar boost it would be just fine. I have heard so many bad things about Knight superchargers though. Do a search on 2gnt.com for Knight and you will see what I mean. I wouldn't give that man someone elses money for a product.

just wondering if anyone knows of a supercharger for the 4g63 , just because a friend brought up that a supercharger and turbocharger together would be a killer combination.

There are older MR2's with turbo/supercharger combos. It is EXTREMELY hard to tune, and they usually put donw shitty numbers from what I've seen.

I believe that there is a shop here in Edmonton that is trying to do the super charger and turbo charger combo on a 1G. I haven't been to the shop that was said to be doing it so I don't know how it is going.

ive heard of the mr2 with it and have always loved the idea, but yeah i can see it not pullin as good of numbers as a bigger turbo could.

You'd be taking a step back with a super charger. Belt driven forced induction place more inertial force on internal components.

Turbo magazine is doing a 2nd gen MR2 V-6 swap with a supercharger and turbo! They are currently building up the engine after initial stock engine testing lifted one of the heads enough to let out coolant steam!!OMG This setup is very complicated and would require a built engine and a very good tuner. Read up on the Turbo articles its very interesting. And on a dsm all we would need is a supercharger/intake mani combo, a correctly chosen turbo, and a very capable engine management system.

>Turbo magazine is doing a 2nd gen MR2 V-6 swap with a supercharger and turbo!

I saw that idiotic project… To put this in Mitsu terms, it would be like taking out 4G63 motor from an EVO, installing 3G Eclipse NT 3.0 motor and then turbocharging/blowing it.

When they are done, they will find that a 4 banger could have made the same power for 1/3 the cost…

Besides, this topic does not belong in the advanced section. Thread moved.

I'd have to strongly disagree about it being "idiotic". Why they swaped in a V-6 I'm not really sure, but the twincharging topic is a very interesting concept. DSMs already have plenty of aftermarket support and supporting mods. Like I said earlier twincharging is a supercharger/intake mani combo, properly picked turbo, and capable engine management system away. There's my two pennies.

Check out this skyline sr20DETTS. Twin Turbo Supercharged.
