So after getting the sunroof fixed and getting parts to finish it up, I test fit the weatherstripping... low and behold it doesn't appear to fit.

This is off another 2G Eclipse that I essentially got for free from buying other parts. The original weatherstripping was glued shut because the previous owner was too lazy to fix it. So it ruined the molding when I separated it with a blade to work on it.

Anyways, how do I close this gap? I tried pulling it tight and rounding the corners as close as possible but no go.

There's this thing called sugru and you can use it to fill that hole up and when it dries it comes out as a hard rubber.

I've used it on my BOV hose when I had to cut and re-angle it and I have also used it on my coolant bottle to seal it to the cap. So far its been holding up these past 6 months.

Other then that, maybe get new weatherstripping? I think it was around 80 bucks give or take.

$96 or so at jnz. Just bough one last month. Last I heard there were only 2 or so left on this coast and around 18-20 in the country with no guarantee of more. It was a bi*** the install on the glass. Frame was a tad rusty and the WS was cut about 6 inches too long.

Happen to me when I replacement mine with a used one. Remove it and start over, this time around constantly keep tension as you put it back on. It should work. Good Luck.

When you buy the replacement weatherstripping they leave about 6-8" extra so you dont have this problem.

Ah I also had the same problem but for a different reason than posted above. The metal lip from the donor car had rusted and flaked off into the weatherstripping. Inspect the slot and if there is any debris, then clean it out. Then use the suggestions already posted above.

IIRC, I used a butter knife while sitting on my kitchen floor to clean out all the crap in mine.
