I hate posting anything non performance but I'm getting two 12 inch polkmomo subs after Christmas i do baleave and was wondering what is the best way to enclose them in a 1gb talon for peak sound. I was thinking of cutting out two 12 inch holes in the lift up that is connected to the hatch and facing the 2 12s upward facing the hatch window in a box that is ported. any suggestions would be helpful

That's a pretty good path, or ditch the backseat and put a box there. That's what I did. But yeah firing off the glass is a good idea.

That, or just remove the cover completely, make a box for them and put them at the end of your trunk so they dont slide around at all. Actually makes it a bit louder then, because it bounces right towards you. I have 2 MTX 8000's hitt 800w RMS and it is quite loud. But, different car. Meh, same concept still.

12" Polk Momo subs are designed to be used in Sealed applications with box enclosure of 0.88 cu ft. WHY would you put them in a ported box? If you want a ported application, find subs that are made for use in ported applications.

Then what brand 12 inch sub would you go for in a ported application such as the one i stated before. Or should i just not port the box I'm only asking cause you sound like you would know of a few good options.

cool i got worried after you said it was sealed only because then i woulda had to recalculate sum shit for a sealed box but their universal thats good. So i guess im going with the original plan of having the subs firing at the rear window but now were to place the ports?? ill post pictures as its being built up the thread will probably be closed in a month but if not ill have pics up. :talon:

Did you use their specs for the ported box? Ported is 1.50cu ft and sealed is 0.88cu ft.
Specs for ported - http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/subbox/subbox_plan.php?id=55&mesurements=standard
Specs for sealed - http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/subbox/subbox_plan.php?id=58&mesurements=standard

If you fire the subs at the window have the ports on each side of the box (towards the wheels/tires).

Ported or sealed choice depends on the type of music you plan to play. What kind of music do you listen to?

I listen to techno, trance, rave and breakbeats so I always go with a sealed box. If you listen to rap or hip-hop then go with a ported box. Sealed boxes take more power than ported boxes to put out the same power. The bass in the sealed box is tight, short, deep and precise and the bass in the ported box is louder and deeper. Bandpass boxes suck!

Man.. 2 12's sound pretty intense, you better have some good 3 way compnents or something or thats gunna just be bass and sound like shit.. yea ppl will hear you a zillion miles away but it should be quality and not quantity. just get some box's custom made to fit where ever you want. Good sugestions that ppl have made is yea.. take the seats out or something along those lines.. or make it cool like I will eventually do and make your own box's.. you just make a frame and do your own fibre glassing. its actually quite easy. all i am running is one 12' pioneer with a mtx 3002 which is 300watt RMS and the pioneer is 400 watt RMS rating max.. its not TOP OF THE LINE.. but it pounds pretty heavy. like I sayd before.. quality, not quantity. :dsm:

Yes, always go with quality first. The previous owner of my GS-T installed two 12" Memphis subs in a ported box, and while they have lots of bass, it's too much. I have to keep it set low, and even then, I still have a hard time hearing my Infinity Reference Series component speakers. LOL

It sounds like you're on the right track though, Polk/Momos are great speakers.

well my set up so far is a pioneer p7700 head unit, pioneer 4way ts-a1681r that are externally mounted in the original front speaker location ..their some of the most crystal sounding speakers for the money ..haven't yet figured out what to replace the rear original speakers with there gonna be pioneers i like things to match but dunno if i wanna go with 2 or 3ways. Also my head unit has a highpass and low pass filter customization so as far as component speakers go I'm not yet shure if their needed..but im also new at the hole audio thing so if anyones got sum basic steps i should follow to building a loud but crisp sounding system id be more then happy to gain some knowledge of you guys. :thumb:
