Started my custom enclosure today, i think i made some pretty good progress for starting after work and only having a few hours to hack away at it.

Pic 1 - Just sitting on the garage floor
Pic 2 - side angle, the back is angled so it mounts flush with the back seats.
Pic 3 - how it sits when in the trunk

Heres some more pics

pic 1 - the foil mold for making the sides sit flish witht he plastic trim
pic 2 - driver side molded in
pic 3 - mold has cured, lookie how it stays shaped.
pic 4 - both sides shown molded on.
pic 5 - i guess this happens when you put too much hardener in the resin, then fart around for a couple minutes too many tryign to fit the glass

I used the foil so the glass wouldnt fuse to the plastic trim, but will still hug very close to the trim. This allows me to get a tight fit, but still remove the enclosure when i go run at the track.

Can't wait to see it finished. Looks good so far. Make sure you actually USE fiberglass. One other guy on here made his whole enclosure just out of resin and resin on felt.

What i'm going to do is use fleece as a base. I'm stretching felt over the whole thing, soaking it in resin, let it cure, and then i'll remove the whole assembly from the car. Then i'll be laying the fiberglass over the cured fleece. I'll probably end up with 4-5 layers of glass. I don't wanna skimp out on the construction and have the enclosure flex when the subs hit.

On the docket (sp?) for today... installing spreaker mounts (rings) re-enforcing the side panels with a couple more layers, and installing the fleece and letting that cure. We'll see how it turns out.

Yuck, that one picture looks like grape jelly mixed with something you would find in a turkey... :| :barf: Anyways... I really want to see what it looks like when it is finished! Be sure to post pictures! What color are you going to paint it? I see you fiberglassed the inside but are you going to fiberglass the whole thing or are you planning just to build the rest with wood? Looks like a fun project! :thumb:

your trunk has two different colors . might want to finish that too.are you planning on carpeting or painting the finished product? is the foil gunna be able to pull off

Yea, 2 different color primers. They are going to be painted black.. i just didnt wanna scretch the finish on the paint with all the fiberglassing and finishing going on.

It's all going to be painted black. I'll probably have it all paint matched to the car.

shouldnt you be putting the foil first to protect the plastic, then the wood and then glassing to the wood (= using staples. trim piece to staple against etc?)

Before you get too far into it, you should go back and bevel the bottom piece so the one for the seat back is flush against it... then finish mocking upthe front with your rings etc...

maybe the first glass layer stapled between your existing mdf bottom and a small 1/4 trim piece with the material exiting downwardsfor a more natural curve and better seal and lay up/... then add more on the inside outside as you see fit...

attack - the back is flush with the rear seats. It doesnt really look like it in the pics, but it is. The sides are not currently connected to the wood. I left the mdf in there when i did the molding so i could fit the sides to come down onto the base. The sides pretty much seal against the mdf on the base and on the back, i'll just hot glue or resin them to the wood when i get to that point. The fleece that is going to stretch over the rings will reach over the back and down under the front edge. I'll have to flatten out the front edge a little, since it is a little jagged.

It's kinda hard for me to post everything im thinking and planning on doing, but you will see it all in the finished project.

not the back piece flush with the back seat, but so it sits flush with the edge of the bottom... looks like theres a gap and it is just tilted in in the pictures.

i dont really understand how you're going to finish this thing off..... hurry up and get it done (but take your time and do it right  ). post some pics!!!

Sorry for not checking up on this guys. I decided to scrap this box, and im doing a full trunk enclosure instead. I havent gotten a whole lot done, ive been pretty busy helping my friend turbo/all trac is '93 celica.

Depend on the workoad at work this week i should be able to get some stuff done before the weekend. I am hoping to have the car completed enough to show it at the dream cruise in 2 weeks.

I used all Dupli-Color stuff for my interior. On the seats, dash, and door i used the vinyl/leather dye. I used the plastic stuff on the plastic panels. If you want a writeup on how i prepped everything drop me a PM.
