Ok, so I decided to take my car for a bit of spirited driving, which i hardly ever do and something weird is going on. I was in 2nd gear and I slammed on the gas at about 2200 rpms, and it took off wonderfully until about 3500 rpms, where it seemed to studder 3 times and i thought i heard backfires, and then right after that it takes off full speed. it made no sense to me... hits 15 psi just fine, sits at 20 vac at idle, and the car drives fine. im thinking maybe some sort of a mild intake leak or something? do anyone have any ideas?

(edit... last time i tried to submit this it didnt go through. hope it doesnt appear twice.)

1. I'm ordering the wires like right now.
2. Anyone know where to get a fuel filter? and how much?
3. I know this is probably common knowledge, but whats the inlet size of the t25? my leak tester should be here in a week or two and I need to order a coupler for it to go to my little tiny t25. The tester is going to be about 3 inches around.
4. I'm going to regap my plugs and clean them off when I do the wires. They have about 3k miles on them.

I'm dominating this problem.

1. I really do think that will help, I like the Accel Thundersport 8mm wires
2. AutoZone, Advanded or Pep Boys , any local place, about $15, and get ready to have some fun, be careful not to bend the hard fuel line
3. I want to say its 2" but its been a while that my trusty T25 has been out, might be 2.25"
4. Good idea

Thats what we like to hear.:thumb:

Oh, btw, since the downpipe got replaced, the car is pretty much perfect again. I still feel like either it's still slow, or maybe I'm just used to the boost. Might as well get a ton of maintenance done now though while I'm off of school.

good thing it's up to par again. yea, my cars feel slow too but everybody who rides in them say that they're pretty fast. you and me are getting used to this boost thingy.:thumb:

arrgggg!!!! It started with it's same old shit again today!!!! New plug wires and a boost leak tester are on the way. I rewired the radio to so I can reset the ECU without resetting my radio so I'll do the leak test, fix whatever, do the wires, then reset the ECU. Hopefully it's good after that... if not, then I might just shit a brick.

I'm having the same problems, going to replace my plugs and intake manifold gasket tommorow, and plug wires after that. Hope one of those fixes it. Let's pray for each other!

Spyder97GS your having the same problem as well?

then do you have turbo? is seems your N/T, and if you still do have problem then it's not the boost leak,

I'm having the same problem as well, and I even changed my ignition coils, plug wires, plugs, compression test, but same problem. it wont go away

I've thought it was boost leak problem, but if N/T car has same problem,

Then...what is wrong with the car?

I dunno... my boost leak tester is here but it's too dark out to do it and I need to go get clamps. I just changed the plug wires and replaced the downpipe. If the boost leak reveals nothing or doesn't fix the problem, then I'm going to do the front o2 sensor since it's kinda bad right now, then if that doesn't fix it, then I'll do the fuel filter. moving right along.... and I have not done any of this in the daylight so far LOL...

forgot to mention... I've yet to drive the car with the new plug wires. time to eat dinner then go to home depot for band clamps.

Yes, I was having the same problem. Turned out to be my spark plugs actually, and now its fixed. Good luck getting it fixed however.

Are you using anything to control the fuel? If you are, when was your last tune? Does the stuttering go away if you turn the boost down?

changed out the spark plug wires last night, jumped in the car, turned the key and it turned right over. now you may be thinking that's what it's supposed to do, but it's been a little hesitant to start lately... not bad, and nothing that cant be explained away by cold weather.

so this morning I came out for my morning struggle with getting it to start in the cold and it turned right over. my office building got to witness a nice 2nd gear pull down the strip of road by the gate outside the main entrance... no hesitation, no studdering, and i smiled like a little boy on Christmas.

workin like a champ. boost leak test comes tonight or tomorrow. everything I do seems to be a big improvement. the spark plug wires made the most noticeable difference though.

Ok, so the issue isn't totally gone yet...

I did a boost leak test to 20psi and found a few leaks, fixed a really bad one at the blow off valve flange, and the car runs much better, but not totally ok. I have a new o2 sensor on the way because I was watching my log and it appeared that the o2 sensor was showing the car as REALLY rich when it studdered like that, but it could be the damn thing malfunctioning so I'm going to replace it and see what happens.... oh and my inspection is up and I have a CEL from the o2 sensor so I might as well do it.

The last thing to try is the fuel filter.... which I was hoping to put off until it was nicer weather outside. I might just have my friend's dad do it though since he is a mechanic and has a garage on the same property that I work at....
