sorry to double post but.... i am tring to take off my 420a's head to take a look at the hg. i have removed the vc and the cams. the i took off the timing belt and a pully. i have removed all the small stuff but the head wont come off. it seems to be attached by the intake mani. do i need to take that off aswell??? this thing is pissing me off. i'm bout to take it to a shop. please help me.

Stupid question but did you remove the headbolts underneath the cams? The intake manifold either needs to be removed or the 2 brackets underneath the intake manifold that support the intake manifold and bolt to the block. There is also a bracket that supports the intake manifold inbetween the the head and the intake manifold. You will also have to disconnect the fuel rail and the harness going to the injectors. I would just remove the intake manifold first in my opinion.

First of all, take a step back and take a deep breath. Now, make sure the intake bracket is unbolted from the block. :thumb:

ok i got that beiotch off. the cruise control box was in the way and i couldn't see the bracket. so there are all these little marks on the sides of the pistons and the #3 piston has a small chip missing out of the side of it. how does thid happen? the valves dont have any marks in them. guess i am rebuilding the whole thing. how heavy is the block? can i lift the thing myself? the head was light.

HAHHA Not unless your superman or the incredible hulk. I just took mine out and for 2 people it was heavy and slightly awkward to remove because the clutch is coming off of the block 3-4 inches or so. The block weighs 250-300lbs plus you are leaning over and lifting up at the same time. Once its out of the car and on the ground you could probably lift it yourself. If you and someone else decide to lift it where work gloves and be extremely careful. Also once you unbolt it from the tranny it is going to drop immediately so unbolt the top tranny bolts last.

I just took out a 4G63T two days ago with a AT and let me tell you that thing is heavy..I pulled the engine by myself and got it on the engine stand

You should do it with a cherry picker but I think this way is faster...

Put the car on four jackstands. Have everything ready to drop except for the engine/trans mounts. Jack the engine up with a trans/floor jack with a big ass piece of wood (so it doesn't dent/damage anything). Slowly lower the block and trans down and then slide it under the car through the wheel well.

Unbolt the trans/clutch from the block. Bolt on the motor mounts for the engine stand...and done

here is pics if it matters... http://www.cellcluster.net/cars/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=239

Good luck!

hey i got a few more questions about my motor. i have the head off and am looking at my block. there is two sensors in the back i assume for oil and there is also a threaded plug back there what is that for? the plug is on the passenger side of the other two sensors. also can i just pull the block with out the tranny? there are five bolts holding the two togeather. i pulled them and had a jack supporting the engine but the flywheel seems to want to come out with the block. i don't know if there is enough room to pull the block out with the flywheel on it. has anyone done this?
