Hi guys, this is my first ever dsm (coming over from the turbo vr6 world). So I took the motor out of my 92 tsi awd but I could not get the drivers side mount out. I took the nut off the bolt that goes through the mount, but now the mount just pivots on the through bolt. So my question is, how do you get the through bolt out? Maybe I am just doing it wrong but I don't see how this bolt can come out unless its just frozen in there. Any help would be appreciated.

I pound the tip of it with a small hammer. I also put a small jack underneath the oil pan and put a small block of wood (2x4) between the jack and the oil pan and apply slight upward pressure. It helps loosen up the through bolt somewhat then I just tap it out with the hammer. I have done this countless times with no issues to date over the last 8yrs. Just make sure to not hit/damage the threads on the through bolt.

I believe you removed only the nut on the main bolt, the one on the back of the mount. In order to slide the bolt out you need to remove the two smaller nuts on the front of the mount, then it will just slide out.

well the motor is already out of the car. When I couldn't get the mount out I just pivoted it up and slid the motor out. As for the two other nuts facing the front of the car, both of these just spin. Should I assume that they are stripped or is there another trick to this.

thanks for the quick replies also.

If they spin then yes, they're stripped. I would try and unscrew them while somehow pushing them toward the front of the car, they should catch in what is left of the studs thread and eventually came off. The studs are welded to the frame though so you wull have ro find a creative way to tighten that rod back in place once the motor goes in, but since the rod is kept in place by the bolt on the other side of the mount you may get away with the two small studs being stripped, they just prevent the rod from spinning anyway.

Oh they were certainly stripped. I tried pushing on the nut but had no luck. So when in doubt get the welder. I welded a nut to the front of the stripped bolt and just unscrewed it. Thank god for Craftsman flux core goodness.

From a VR6 to a DSM, you must be a gluten for punishment! Haha, swift thinking with the welder. Keep us posted on your progress!
