If its not one thing its another. So I finally get ready to put the head on my block, just to find out that 4 of my head bolt hole are stripped. Maybe they are not stripped but the four of them all have rust in them. Could I just retap them, or would I have to use a heli coil? If so does any one know where to get the heli coil and/or the part #, or where I can get the tap to retap them. I have been several places and nobody has either one, they just look at me and say are you sure it is M12X1.25.

Thanks in advance.

TRIPLE check the thread pitch and depth, then go back to autozone or where ever, get yourself the tap. Spray the tap liberally with a lube (WD-40 or something better)and SLOWLY tap it out to clean the rust/debrie/burrs out of the threads. If the 4 holes are stripped, do not heli-coil them, You will be tearing your engine apart to replace head gaskets constently. You'll probably need to find a short block to replace the lower half of the motor. Good luck with that, hope they arent stripped.

Rusty holes do not necessarily mean they are stripped. Slick bores do. If you have pulled the threads, you have limited options. Call a good machine shop to see if they have any ideas to help you. I've never pulled a thread in a 4g63 block, but that's not to say it can't be done. Like AllBoost said, tap them out and inspect them for depth of threads and to see if any had pulled. If they look ok, then try to torque your head down.

When you get to the torquing part, you probably won't be able to pull a pin out of your butt with a come along. Trust me on that one. Been there, done that.

I hope the best for you.

Can you explain what it is to pull a thread!?

I went to Sears today and bought a set to retap, the thread, so I hope it does work. I will try after the U.S. beats Ghana in the morning.

Ok, so I couldn't wait, I'm like a kid with a new toy when I get a new tool, and I had to go and try it. So the problem is fixed, I really did not want to do that Heli coil stuff. So as of now, no more problems.

Don't worry though, I have a DSM so I will find another one tomorrow :p .
