Today i was driving my car around regularly, dint beat on it that much at all...after when i pulled my car over to drop one of my friends off i started to hear a weird sound(car was idling obviously)....the car was drivin perfect all gauges were reading fine...i tried to see where the sound was comming from and it seemed to be right under the water temp. sensor housing...could it be my clutch, flyweel or something over there?....also sound stopped completely if i gave it a little gas(gas pedal)....i just got home n the car isnt making the sound no more...but im still very skeptical about it...i know weird sounds are definetly not good...:barf:

Get a long screwdriver. Put the metal end agaist the part(s) you think are causing the noise and put the handle against your ear. That should help you pin point where the sound is comming from. Also, that "tec" sound could be something in the head (dry lifters maybe) and when you give it gas, oil pressue increases therefore eliminating the sound.

hmph i see....thanks alot I'll try to pin point the sound if it comes back...as of now the sound is gone...would i notice anything different if it was something in the head? (ie. loss of performace, something different in one of the gauges, check engine light, smoke?) thank you... and last question should i just remove my valve cover and just take a look to see if everything looks alright there?

No our heads are just prone to lifter tick. After about 20-30,000 miles they start to tick, even from the factory this was a problem. I think the lifters have oil passages that clog up after a while.

its very common on alot of engines actualy, almost all volkswagen and audi engines do it, the best way to get rid of it is switch to a thicker oil 20w-50 does it for me, and keep lots of oil in your engine.

Yea my brother put half a quart of oil extra and it seems to quiet the tick down. Is this bad to do? I dont have lifter tick, rebuilt head thank god. But I will because I didnt use the 3g lifters like I should have.

Update: The sound came back....it appears to come back after i drive it a little tough (ie: speeding on highway)...the sound definetely sounds like its comming from what i guess is the inside of the transfer case... any replies would be very helpful...and i know this sound cant be a good thing...something loose down there has to be bad...
other comment: where can i get more info on the 3g lifters? vfaq?

Maybe it's V-"tec".
LOL

Check for leaking 90W out of the xfer case. drain/fill plugs There is a recall on it. Also, they are not 3g lifters as in 3rd Gen Ecilpse, they are 2g Revised lifters as in the 2nd Gen Eclipse's lifters in a revised form.

ha maybe it is v-"tec" LOL....
oh that makes things alot more clear...i was like 3rd gen lifters!?!? thanks ill check for any leaks, and the drain/fill plugs... =)
