So my car has the stock turbo with a bunch of shaft play. I am deciding between rebuilding it and replacing the exhaust housing that i can get for 45 bucks or going with some type of upgrade turbo either eve 3 16g or 14b. I have a fmic that was never used, just eye candy. I know people say the stock turbo isn't worth rebuilding but i can do it for less than 100 bucks. My car is a daily driver and I'm not looking for big hp, around 300 would be nice. When i pulled my down pipe off the other day i found coolant in the o2 housing. I just did a head gasket job around 2000 miles ago. I think the coolant is leaking out of the turbo. So my question is, is it worth it to buy the 16g and new piping for fmic or just rebuild the stock turbo? I have an intake, boost gauge, exhaust (stock manifold, 2.5 inch dp and 3. fatback tanabe), and greedy bov. Can I just bolt a 16g on or would i need more mods? I don't have a wideband, just a narrowband. Any answers/thoughts would be appreciated. I would be doing all the work myself so no shop charges.

You can get some good deals on piping and couplers on eBay. Typically stay away from eBay but how are you going to mess up an aluminum peice of pipe. My whole fmic kit came from eBay.

Sorry its been a while but ive been busy and its really cold so I haven't worked on my car a lot. I got the 14b which turned out to be a 13g off of a auto 1g which is disappointing. I ported and polished the exhaust housing to match the 2g gasket. I also bought ebay intercooler piping. Made another mistake there by buying 3" instead of 2.5" because my fmic is 3". I just bought the universal kit with two 90s, 2 45s, 2 180s, and 2 straights. I have a buddy with an aluminum welder so im hoping to either modify to fit the long route or make my own short route kit. I am having a hard time trying to figure out my coolant lines for this smaller turbo because the real 14b lines are direct fit to my old t25 lines. The turbo came with one water line and the stock oil feed line the feeds from the head. I bought a 14b/16g install kit thinking this turbo was a real 14b so the threads don't match with that. Im just gonna hold onto it until I upgrade to a 14b or 16g. Will this 13g still run my 3" fmic ok or should I just look for a 14b/16g? thanks for the help so far guys

Well its been a while. I've been working on my car off and on. I bought a 14b 13g by mistake. I didn't know there was a smaller version of the 14b. I ported and polished this smaller turbo and am working on getting it installed. Bought a j-pipe kit and 3" intercooler piping to mach the fmic that the car came with. I know i know i should have bought 2.5" but i thought it would be easier than buying more adapters to fit the 3" intercooler. Anyways i have that installed and a manual boost controller installed. (ebay version cause I'm on a budget) I am waiting on a bov flange so i can reattach my bov to the new piping. i have the turbo installed accept for one water line. I can't seem to figure out how to get it hooked up with a banjo fitting. Since its the 13g, my stock water lines don't fit it so if anyone has any ideas on how to hook it up i would greatly appreciate it. I am a bit worried that my car won't run as well cause i have no way of tuning as of now. I am on a budget, trying to make money during high school is nearly impossible when working 3.5 hours a day. let me know what you guys think of my build so far
