Stock Stereo Shut down

I just installed some new 6.5's in the front, and 6X9's in the rear but i'm still running the stock stereo. I was driving the other day and the radio just shut down. It will still take/eject cd's, but it wont turn on or play am/fm/cds at all. I checked the fuse under the hood and its good. My question is: does the stock stereo have a fuse in the back like afteramarket decks? Has anyone seen this problem before........I'm gonna check it out when I have time, but i was just wondering.......

Depends on which stock stereo. The one with the equalizer sliders on the front does, the newer one with the bass/mid/treble knobs doesn't.

It could be that you overloaded the factory amp located under the passenger seat. my bet is that the aftermarket speakes drew to much power and the factory amp is not the best.

I have the am/fm/cd player with the "knobs" eq.........when i turn the ignition on, the stereo display lights up all the led bars. So you say i overloaded my stock amp? Well wtf am i gonna do now? Should i just get an aftermarket deck and take the stock amp out of the system?

You'll be bucks and features ahead to take that route. MP-3 and an I-pod input can't be beat.

If you went and put new speakers in gotta have the new deck to go with it. just my .02

So i purchased a Pioneer Deck and installed it. My system sounds pretty good now. I bypassed the stock amp and wired the new speakers into the deck.........problem solved

Congrats on getting the problem solved, I was just writing to say that I had that problem with a friends car, where the radio wouldn't turn on at all after trying to install an aftermarket deck. Turns out that it was a blown fuse, but as long as you have a working radio/cd player now, that's all that matters!
