Stock rods... cant find awnser....

Ok, just got the block back from the machine shop and starting to reassemble it. I have the rings set and rods/pistons together, my problem is the service manual says to match the numbers on the connecting rods (bottom and top pieces) and install, nothing else. There are no numbers so Im hoping the machine shop, which is what every mechanic around here uses set them right so Im leaving those how they are, but on the portion directly above the spot where the bearings/crank sits in the rod there is a little half centimeter groove on both sides of the rod, does that get positioned to the front, or back of the block, or doesnt it matter? Please let me know as soon as possible.

look at your piston, that determines which way to set them down into the cylinder and onto the crank The pistons should have an arrow, some writing etc, so you know what's front and back, then just put them down that way.

Ok, well the machine shop set them so as long as the pistons are set correct the groove on the rods wont matter which way it is

Just be sure that, after you have the head bolted up, you manually crank the motor over a couple times to check clearance. If the pistons are in the wrong way, such as my Wisecos were, they will come into contact with the head and you will not be able to continue turning the crank. Mind you, my Wisecos were 10.5:1, so they had a bit more dome to them, but the principle is the same.

Same compression as stock, just bored. Im not turboing it right now and when I do it wont be a lot so these should do the job.

To get aftermarket rods I would have needed different pistons and didnt need to spend that kind of money for now. I have it bored 20 over, almost all of the bolton mods, bigger tb, intake ect, 190 fuel pump, fpr, prob gonna get a safc to play it safe. Later on Im going to totally build the head but thats not for a year or so.

the numbers on the rods should have been stamped onto the connecting rod caps upon dissassembly as a reference to who's home was where on the crank. Sounds like the machine shop skipped a step.

Cool, I will defiently make sure to do that. Im just hoping everything starts ok and doesnt leak , Im able to do anything you could ever think of for exterior and interior modification but Im teaching myself how to rebuild a motor with this because it had broke down, so far so good, and all the help is greatly appricated!
