Stock Boost Gauge Reads up to 2?

I know the stock boost gauges are a piece of crap and I plan on replacing it with an aftermarket when I start modding my car but I want to make sure everything is running right first. The boost gauge goes from -7 to about 2 when I'm at 5000. Most of the time on hear people say the gauge just goes up with the rpm's, any thoughts? I'm going to try to perform some free mods after work today so I can get familiar with the engine's parts as I'm still not comfortable with it. I just figured the boost gauge would go up (innacurately)no matter what, even if the turbo wasn't working. All help is appreciated.

You are somewhat cprrect. It doesnt read boost it read other functions and then tries to make a boost level based on those. I have no idea why they even put it in the car it is the most worhtless thing I have seen. It wont do anything for you so there is no need to pay it any attention even afetr mods. Do some free mods, but it is in your best interest to get a boost gauge. I would hate for you to try and "save" money and then kill your engine and have to spend a good amount more.

Alright I'm going to fool around under the hood make sure the turbo is working, do some of the free mods for now. The only other mods I have planned short term is a K&N, a boost gauge and an mbc. Just wanted to make sure the turbo is working before I attempt to play around with the boost. Thanks.
