Ok this is a weird question:

When you guys are at WOT....do you get a cloud of smelly smoke?

I've heard these cars can get a touch smelly and I really wanted to know.....WHY OMG

I'm not running rich and everything seems to be in good order, so where does the ploom of shiat come from??

Ever been behind a dsm that floors it?? Looks like something out of Top Gun :thumb:

My guess would be a clogged cat because the same thing happened to me the first time I went down to the track and my car smelled like rotten eggs.

Well, the same thing happened to my bros 92 Bimmer. It was from his cat. THe car had been sitting awhile(2 months), until he started it up again. When the car is stopped after driving a lil while, it would smell horrible, exactly like rotten eggs. IDK could be the same thing. The smell just eventually went away after driving for couple months.

Hm....yet another reason to get rid of your cat. Haha. LOL!

Generally the smoke and smell is from NOT having a cat. When your car runs a richer air fuel ratio (like turbo cars do stock) there is more soot or carbon coming from the exhaust because of that. The richer the air fuel ratio the dirtier the exhaust is going to be.

So when you plow on it, there is a lot of volume of exhaust as well which allows you to acctually see the carbon coming from the exhaust. Generally on a car with a cat you won't see as much carbon or be as stinky because it's burning that excess fuel in the cat for a more complete combustion cycle. But because were running the cars so rich there isn't really that complete a combusiton cycle. Mind you it makes power, but it's not great for the environment or amount of carbon coming from the exhaust.

Thanks for the info guys :thumb: I'm running a high flow cat, and my 02 voltage is at .90-.91, i know that the stocker isn't that accurate but that what i'm getting on my pocketlogger. I also am questioning the integrity of my HG as after seeing 10 hard pulls my temps go up to 220ish, but for typical daily driving stay around 201.

Now I know where the smell comes from......any other way to clear it up than a cat and running leaner?? I was thinking like doing the seafoam thing and blowing all the deposits out of my engine?

No there is nothing you can do. It's like trying to put a filter on your ass to stop the stink.

LOL......good point.

But i'm curious....are the new evo's smelly when you romp on them too?? Or is it just an older dsm thing?

I heard theres a chemical you can dump into your gas tank that will make your exhaust smell like bananas, or strawberries, or vanilla or something like that. Maybe this kid was talking out his ass, but either way...I prefer that pungent stank that make people say "Yaaaack." :barf:

Who wants a frooty-foo-foo smelling exhaust?? Dont forget to swing by the store on the way home and pick up some tampons.

hey now, I was just making sure that the smell and death ploom was pretty standard............and it is :p You don't see it happen with porche's and other turbo'd cars so I was wondering why??

Then it dawned on me......I paid 3k for my car, not 80k :D

Yes there is a smelly fuel additive. I am looking at the ad in a JEG's magazine. Description describes it for alcohol or standard gas vehicles without cats to relieve the "nauseating smell" from the exhaust. Anyone for "rippin' rootbeer" smelling exhaust??? Not too bad 14 different smells for under 12 bux. I think i am going to just leave the stench and spend that money on better gas. :talon: :thumb:
