Got some more pictures! Taking the dash out is not hard at all, people say it is, but this was my first time, and it felt like I could do that in my sleep. So I pulled the dash, pulled the steering wheel (Had to rent a steering wheel puller from autozone). Took out some more rusty brackets. And I removed the big ugly auto shifter. I'll show you guys what I'll do in place (no 5 speed swap...).

And the worst part was when I went to peel up the sound deadening. It was all rust! yuck.... Took some rust remover gel, applied it, wiped it off, and started grinding. I also hand sanded most of the rust off also, which was not fun. Then I applied a coat of Rustoleum Engine Enamel, yeah i know Engine Enamel? I dont know... I just like the stuff.

Dash is out!

Rusty old Brackets..
100_1249.jpg

I've been really busy the past week, so not a lot got done. I've been with my girlfriend the past 5 days.

Going to the local Ace Hardware and picking up a nice big fat sack of gold screws and bolts (just like the stock ones!) to replace all the rusty old ones.. yes i will clear them so they dont rust.

Feel like coming down to Chicago and giving my rustbucket the same treatment? ;)

Laziness owns me, but your post might be the inspiration I need to get out to the garage and start working again.

Steve - Nice work, buddy. I did the same work to my floorpan, I just went about it in a different way. What was the rust remover gel you used and how long did it take you using that product? And instead of buying all new bolts (Because as you know by now, there are a ton of them) try soaking them in apple cider vinegar for a day or two. It should clean them right up and save you a little cash in process.

I used a truck bed liner to seal my foot wells. My rust wasn't even close to as bad as yours, but I still had a little bit. I used a wire brush and some rust dissolver to clean it up.

I live in an area that gets a bit of snow and I DD my car. The liner might add more weight than some would like, but it will take the abuse of the salt and snow/slush/ice I track into my car.

Next time I pull my carpet, I'll snap some pics.

How much that run you?

usually.. you can rent stuff for free, just pay deposit and get deposit back when you return it in good condition.

What was that rust removing gel you were talking about in your thread man!!!???
