steering problem ??

ok this newly developed problem started friday night, i had the car sitting almost all weekend there was no need to drive it, the the problem persists today.

the problem is while sitting still i turn the steering wheel either left or right and i get a real nasty sounding thumping or clicking. i also feel vibration in the wheel, and i believe the wheel actually moves as on each thump/click as well. i dont notice it while the car is in motion though. first thing i thought was power steering since the car is equipped with it, so i checked the pump for leaks, found nothing. next i checked the fluid, and its full up to the cap. im thinkin about replacing the power steering pump, but im worried its going to end up being something a little more involved then that, and i dont want to blow money on parts i do not need. what could be causing this noise and vibration?

ok so i talked to my buddy last night, he said it could possibly be the bearing plate at the top of the strut tower......

no wisemen have any questions to help me diagnose this or any input at all...?

very likely to be the top plate like my car
my shock blew really fast so i don t know what s the condition of your but you might wanna check it out

Check your ball joints also. They will cause the same symptoms.
