I'm new to the forums and starting out with my first DSM.I just bought my wife a 97 eclipse spyder FWD. I believe from reading online and doing some research that she has a 3rd gen 4g63t(late 94-97). her car is turbocharged with i believe a t2 turbo. When we got the car it only had 77k miles on it (got it last year). The heads leaked and the tranny was burnt. I figured the previous owner raced it and didn't take care of it. So now my wife got her dream car( which i get to fix). Now on to my question(s). I know that this motor statistically speaking is more prone to crankwalk then any other car. What are the signs to crankwalk? Also is the 2nd gen more prone then the 3rd gen? If i wanted to get more performance out of the car what should i do first? i want to start with a 7 bolt block and build up. thanks guys

Welcome. If your car is stock then you have the T25 turbo. The signs of crankwalk are end play in the crank. A search would give you more infomation. A 97 4g63t will be the 7 bolt that came in the mid 92-99 DSM's. There is a good upgrade path to follow in the "tech" section. Do all the needed maintenance to the car too before you start modding it. Use that and the search button and you will find more than enough information. Best of luck to you.

3rd generation is from 2000 up to 2006 i think -- i know it starts at 2000, 2gen is what you have -- 95-99, the 1st and 2nd gen have the 46g3 turbo motors in them ( like the one you have ) like the guy above me,, SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH it will be your best friend and will walk you through just about anything

good luck and enjoy:hellyeah:

I already plan on rebuilding the motor with all new seals and gaskets redoing the breaking in then upgrading that motor. this way i know what i will be playing with and where it came from well for the most part. I know this car is a CA car. how do i get rid of all that CA emissions stuff or would it be best to leave it?

EGR block off plate. Honestly though I am going to recommend just like everyone else that you do some serious reading and researching before you start doing anything big on the car.

well i just started my account here so i can not ask questions in other post just yet. For a engine rebuild kit which would be the best? i see there is a lot of cosmetic kits out there and such but im more worried about reliability more then anything else. this will be my wifes daily driver to and from work for the most part. and on the weekend she wants to learn to race.
