what does stand alone or piggy back mean?

also does my 1996 gs-t have OBD-II?

A stand alone unit will replace your factory ECU. It will let you custom program a lot of things that your factory ECU controlled such as timing, fuel maps, air metering, etc. They are more expensive than piggyback units and take a good deal of knowledge to tune. Most people on here will never need to go to one of these.

Examples: AEM EMS, Haltech

A piggyback taps into your factory ECU. It allows you to adjust some of the inner technical workings of the ECU (timing, fuel, airflow, etc.), but is not as comprehensive and complicated as a stand alone. These units are usually a good bit cheaper and can be used by most people.

Examples: DSMlink, S-AFC

also does my 1996 gs-t have OBD-II?

Yep. The OBDII port is near your right knee under the dash when you're sitting in the drivers seat.

Piggyback utilizes the stock ECU and simply alters certain parameters of the ECU.

Standalone is a replacement ECU, and typically more complicated but more open ended in what you can do.

CONCEPT:
Piggyback Fuel Computer with 12 correction points in 200 RPM increments.

CHARACTERISTICS:
Modifies air-flow meter signal (pressure signal in some vehicles) to optimize fuel-air ratio;

You could go with DS-Map it is a great new way to tune, cheaper and better than dsm link.

Oh, and sorry I just realized you have a 2g ds-map works for 1g's so far.
