so my 98 tsi doesnt like to stay running....it idles fine but when the car is in gear and moved it shuts off...the rpm drops low picks up to about 400rpm drops to 100rpm then dies.....ive replaced the fuel filter and crank sensor ive checked the plugs, wires, ignition coil is it a cam sensor? or a vac leak? i really dont have any ideas left.

is the blow off valve hooked up to recycle the air back into the turbo's air filter tube? what you describe is symptoms of a open dump blow off valve and the stock mass air flow sensor not reading the back flow. if that is indeed hooked up check your vacume, you sholuld have about 15-18 inches of vacume. (check any where after throtle body, intake plenum) repair any boost/vac. leaks you may have. now take a flat blade screw driver and adjust the idle speed at the throtle body. unscrew the screw to increase idle tighten it to decrease idle speed. id say unscrew it till the car hits 900-1000idle rpm. book calls for 700idle rpm but our cars never idle that good there, they all need a few hundred extra idle rpm to be smooth and consistant. aim for 900-1000 and you'll be good.
