Hey guys i was reading the other articles on this and no one had a answer. When i start my car i get a LOUD and Sharp squeaking from under the hood. I check all my belts and there good. I put some belt dressing on it and it didnt work. I check to see if there are loose or to tight. They seem good. I think it might be the altanator. When i turn my stereo or lights on it continues and also when im driving. Plus my headlights are low and my dash lights are really dim. So anyone had this problem or fixed it?

Well it sure sounds like your alternator isn't working if your headlights don't get brighter with engine speed - You can check the voltage on the battery with engine running - should be 14 volts or more. And the noise is probably the alt. bearings also. You can temporarily remove the alt. belt to see if the noise goes away (don't run this way very long as the water pump is also on this belt). Right now it sounds like your on battery power - soon you'll be on wind power. :D

Well i check my battery and just for the hell of it i bought a new one! So i think it the altinator. My headlights are like crazy low but there dim with out my system on. So ill check it.

Chances are your alternator is shot or at least the bearings on its pulley. The bearings on mine went and squealed like a mofo.

Your best bet is to exchange it at a local auto parts store. I went through 2 Autozone alternators but they do have lifetime warranty.

Any results yet, I have a similar problem but my sqeak is only on startup. I have tried belt dressing, retensioning, new belt and nothing seems to stop it. Mine usually only does it when it is cold, so I dont know if what i have is the same as yours.

I would like to know what happened though.

my car does this too and it pisses me off. if anyone has any ideas as to what it can be please post. it only happens on startup when it is cold and for about 20 seconds and when i turn a corner it will do it. and if the heat is on. so alternator could be it but why would it stop after 20 or 30 seconds?
