Well hello there fellow dsmers.. I have been looking through forums and reading in my chilton every day for almost 3 years since i got my 1g... Cant find anything to relate to my problems. Ok so far ive done new wires new plugs.. I have adjusted the BISS screw today and adjusted the(cas) both with no luck. So heres a description of the problems at hand.. Car starts fine idles at a cool grand til its functional then itll drop to around 700-800 which i believe is fairly normal... Car will run fine until it reaches midway of heat gauge which i consider operating temp... As soon as it hits operating temperature car falls on its face.. ( by this i mean huge loss of power turbo still spools but it takes a minute for it to actually move out of its way). For the last week now, after putting in new prothane poly mounts it has been dying when i put vehicle into neutral while driving.. Even sitting in my driveway reving it up and it would die... I fixed the dying part today while checking the BISS screw and cas.. Timing is at 5btdc i believe.. Ok here comes the kicker... Main question time.. While driving on the highway this evening got car to operating temps, car seems as if it ia trting to boosy while at 1/4 throttle.. Which isnt normal. Used roughly a quarter of a tank for 25 miles of driving... Car is sputtering while im cruising 3k rpms in 3rd gear at 30mph it keeps wanting to boost with light throttle... Anyone have any kind of input... Sorry for the ear bender hope to get some help quickly thank you guys for your time and patience..

Ok update hopefully my problem will be fixed... Today i started the timing kit.. Got it ripped down and when i got to the crank pulley it fell off.. Looking at it the woodruff key had came out a little bit and was warping from the pressure ruining the groove on the pulley.. Luckily it didnt mess up the little slot on the crankshaft.. The little plate that is on the back.. Crankshaft positioning sensor plate.. Was all worn down... Went to the stores couldnt get a plate for a 1g or a new key.. Stopped by my local 1g grave yard and for 20 bucks from the guy i got a new harmonic balancer new crankshaft positioning sensor plate and the front and rear crank pulley along with a new woodruff key..tomorrow will be removal of waterpump and reassembly of the timing belt and pulleys and tensionsers new water pump and then new exhaust manifold... Needless to say with that woodruff key broken it would cause the timing to jump and skip around... Hopefully i get the timing done properly and i will post an update tomorrow evening after i finish the work and run it...

There is no sensor at the crankshaft on a 1G.

Needless to say with that woodruff key broken it would cause the timing to jump and skip around...
Not really, the cam angle sensor controls all that on a 1G; -but if the damper isn't secure, there's a safe bet that the base ignition timing wasn't set to what it should've been either or that the knock sensor interpreted the damper's slapping around as being knock.

Update..thank you guys so much for your help and input on this problem.. Car is fixed and running scary fast again... Finished the timin kit.. Replaced the broken woodruff key and Gears that it holds in... All new belts new water pump.. Brand new exhaust manifold.. Timing on all marks is dead on.. No more boost leaks.. Now i just need to fix the third gear grinding and get all new suspension.. But yet again this issue has been resolved thanks again i appreciate all of your help and support.. You guys rock

I just experianced somethng just like that but only problem was boost, my wastegate flap would sit slightly open because the wastegate arm was bent and not pulling all the way back. If your wastegate isnt operating properly u will see loss off boost and yes boost hitting at weird times because the falp inside your housing is not working correctly.
