Ok guys this is really weird. I was racing a FMIC Evo III 16G GST, and as soon as i shifted to 3rd gear, my tires chirped and i felt what seems like fuel cut. I looked at the Speedometer gauge and noticed it bouncing up and down going wild. Everytime i accelerate, it will constantly skyrocket even when im doing like 40 MPH. Itll show im doing like 110 when im really doing 35 mph and itll keep bouncing back and forth. It is so weird. I have a rebuilt motor, a brand new Tranny, brand new Evo III 16G Turbo. My car itself will drive like a champ even with this speedometer issue but it seems like once it reaches higher RPM's and it starts to show like 120 MPH in 2nd gear, the car will do the same thing that it did when i raced the GST, Fuel cut. Its like running into a brick wall, and then itll start accelerating once i put it into a different gear. The car is running, indling, sounds fine with the exception of this crazy speedometer. Can anyone please help give me some suggestions on what could have happened. Im like so pissed right now.

Thanks

ur sensor is probally disconnected or your bad. Just buy one off ebay. Costs around $25.

Also, dont mention street racing here. Or your post will be closed.

What i dont understand is how could it have dissconnected? I never had this problem before, and would a simple 2nd gear shift (chirping tires caused it to get loose?) cause a sensor to go to its death. It just seems so weird that im also hitting fuel cut everytime at higher RPMS, dont know if its because my ECU is picking up the 120 MPH in 2nd gear as bad and is starting to give me fuel cut? It doesnt make sense?

Also, where is this speed sensor located, i know its near the gearbox but the pictures i have seen do not help much.

Thanks

The connector's shaken loose at the transmission plug. Try pushing it back on before arguing about it.

Once again Defiant was correct. Thanks so much for the help because you both were correct. The speedometer works fine now after i secured the plug in because it was loose. This also for some odd reason, eliminated the fuel cut issue i was having as well. Speedometer works fine, and fuel cut is eliminated as well.

FYi because you have a 97 you have what is known as OBD II. I personally hate OBD II but I like performance, not what it is good at. OBD II is gerat for the average person that dosen't even have a clue what is going on inside their motor. Fuel cut on your car is based on one of the 8 monitors of the OBD II system. Air/Fuel Delivlery monitor, which sees inputs from the MAF, MAP, TPS, CAS, and the VSS. VSS bing Vehicle Speed Sensor, when the PCM sees "X" volatge fom the VSS it interperts it as a set speed parameter. In your case it was reading the excessive speed level and cutting the fuel acting as a speed govenor. Once the problem was corrected vola no more fuel cut. The only way to change any of the parameter of OBD II is to buy an aftermarket PROM and chance it in the PCM. Hope I didn't confuse you just trying to inpart a little wisdom.

I agree with you on everything you said but it was a few people here on tuners as well as some of the local DSM'ers who claimed that the fuel cut had nothing to do with the VSS. I know for a fact that it had something to do with it. At the time i hit fuel cut was exactly the time my speed sensor went crazy on saturday night. The morning before i secured the Speed sensor plug, i took it for another 1st, 2nd gear redline and it hit fuel cut again in 2nd. I secured the Speed sensor plug because it was loose, took it for a ride and then gave it a little test run. Not only did the speedometer work perfectly again, i didnt see any fuel cut, i redlined 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear and no fuel cut. I repeated this a few more times, and no fuel cut. I understand exactly what your saying, and my theory after this experience seems to be self explanitory that the vss had something to do with the fuel cut.

Thanks for your help, by the way i own a 98 not a 97

Sorry Mis-read, don't know why I put 97 instead of 98. My appologies again

because my DSMtuners screen name is 97clipseDSM..i used to own a 97 RS which i sold for a GST. I know it can be a little confusing, i myself get confused reading peoples screen name such as 97RSeclipse and there car is listed as a 97 GST.

Edit: Whoa i also just noticed your mod list is nearly identical to mine. :thumb:
