Hey guys, I bought my car with a non functioning speedometer and odometer and the seller told me it was the speed sensor. I'm trying to fix it now, but the guy said that when he tried to replace the part, he found that the sensor he ordered was "missing the gear." After some research on the forums, I found that the problem might be that the speed sensor he got was fine, but the gear on the tranny (that connects to the sensor or spins it ?)was just missing. As you can tell i'm clueless when it comes to this and only have a vague (at best) idea of what I need to do to get my speedometer working again to pass inspection so I was just wondering if I could get some ideas on what to do. Also, if it turns out I do need to replace the gear in the tranny, is that hard? and where do I get it? Also, (again) I read about a drill test? how is that done and would that help at all or am I just retarded? Thanks for reading guys.:dsm:

The speed sensor does not come with the gear. Usually it get moved from the old to the new and held in place with an 'e' clip. You could probably order the gear from the dealership. If the previous owner still has the old one, even if it is broken the gear should still be attached and if is not damaged can be used on your new one.

Here is a picture of the speed sensor setup.

These part numbers are for a 95 GSX with manual transmission.
81387 - MD756606 - Speed sensor
81362 - MD622013 - O-ring
81320 - MD622012 - E-clip
81337 - MD746492 - Speed sensor gear
(Part number MD756606 includes MD622013 and MD622012.)

It sounds like you're missing MD746492, unless you can resuse the one from your old sensor.

That's great guys thanks, so I think I'm just missing the the whole assembly. If that's the case, should I just go to a "stealership" and order every part number on that list? Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts has the sensor for around $80.00 should I just get that sensor and get the gear at the dealership? Also, would the o-ring and e-clip be available at a hardware store or are they specific parts that must be ordered at a dealership or autozone (for example)

Like I said before, MD756606 includes MD622013 and MD622012. So if you buy the speed sensor (MD756606), the o-ring and e-clip will be included. The gear is a separate part you have to buy.

JNZ Tuning Online- OEM Mitsubishi Parts
MD756606 - Speed sensor - $56.91
MD746492 - Speed sensor gear - $9.53

Thanks guys, I got the sensor today and will be putting it in tomorrow when I get the car back from the shop. However, after looking up were it goes I'm still clueless because some people say it's next to the battery and some people have even said the whole tranny needs to come out. Now the seller told me it was near the battery and you just plug it right in, he even showed me were but I forgot. Sadly enough though, it is a possibility that he lied :notgood: and if it turns out my tranny has to come out for it I might just have to go to the guy's house and :beatentodeath: just kidding haha (or not?) Anyways though, if anyone could clear this up for me I'd really appreciate it as I would not like to get pulled over for speeding when I'm under the impression I'm abbiding by the speed limit. Thanks!

Hey guys, thanks alot for the help, I put the new sensor in today and my speedo works now! It turns out that I didn't have the pin ( # 8391 in turbosax2's picture) that holds the sensor in place so instead I used an m6 bolt. Do you guys think that should be fine? Or am I endangering my tranny by doing that?

Thanks again!
