spark wires popped off

OK heres the story, I was following my dad to the car rental place to go drop off our rental car. I drove a steady 75-80 mph there. I got off the highway, and the car was driving normal.

About three minutes off the highway the car begins to start sputtering. It begins to be a hassle to take off on first;and on second and three it starts sputtering. I pull over the car pop the hood,and look towards my spark plug wires and noticed them popping out a bit.

So I pop them back in, and I start driving it takes off like normal. I drive home and get off the highway and it sputters a bit. I tried to push the plugs back in, but it appear they were right in.

What could have caused my plugs wires to pop out? Any idea what could have cause the sputtering after I push them back in?

More than likely, nothing.

Id be willing to bet they just were never in tightly. I wouldnt worry about it, I doubt itll ever happen again.

i had the car running for a while about 1 hour ago to see if anything else could have cause the sputtering, and when i couldnt find anything i went to turn the car off,

then i notice the check engine light came on, i grabbed my logger; but i cant find my pen so i cant use my palm pilot to get the code.. any clue what can be causing the light to come on.

just about anything can cause your check engine light to come on.

if your spark plug wires keep on poping aout it seems like it is possible that the threads on your spark plugs are messed up and are leaking a little bit, causing the plugs to come out on the compression stroke. thats is just a theory, but hey, it sounds cool

I think sometimes the check engine light pops on for fun... one time mine came on with some error code that basically meant the intake got some dirty air....

Just wait to log it it could be a lot of things.

If your spark plugs are loose they will build pressure inside the plug well and pop the wires off. Bad plugs may let some excess pressure vent through them as well.

The CEL may have come on because of a detected misfire when it was running bad.

When was the last time you tuned up your car (plugs,wires,timing belt, waterpump, ect..)

i just changed the plugs, wires fuel filter, oil, pcv valve, belts, and fluids back in feb.

Did you crimp the screw-on terminals on the tops of the plugs so they won't back off?

Oh, and since your spark plugs didn't pop out, I've corrected your title.

ive had the same problem with stock replacement wires before
its due to poor construction of the plug wire
sometimes they fell apart after i pulled them of the spark plug
Replaced them with a better plug wire with a lifetime warrenty
