Is there any sound associated when a clutch starts to fail ? Because my clutch has at least 100k that is factory it has become less responsive when i engauge the clutch it seems to catch late and know i hear a ticking noise coming from the engine bay is this from the clutch or something else the motor is rebuilt with less than 18k on it

I've never heard of a noise indicating that it will go. You can try to gun it in 5th gear and see if the RPMs jump more than normal. Do this at your own risk of being ticketed. Clutches slip in high gears first before they make their way down. At the edge of their lives, they will give off an unmistakeable odor. Good luck.

Your clutch is probably going bad, but as far as the ticking I dunno if that is from the clutch going bad or not. But the ticking noise could be lifter tick. If it is, its not going to hurt your engine its just annoying. To dianose it try this.

One thing that I can recommend to help you diagnose the problem is to pop the hood, get a wooden pole and turn the car on. Once it's running and making this noise put the pole near where the noise is coming from. If you think it might be lifter tick put one end of it on the Valve cover and where the valve cover meets the head and the other end to your ear. If you can't here it there, continue on. Eventually you will be able to pin point it's location.

A screw driver or something like that will work too.

Also Here is a link to a search for lifter tick to help out too: http://dsmtuners.com/forums/search.php?searchid=1834148

Good luck :dsm:
