Here are a few questions I've been searching for with no real luck.

#1 What is the difference between a cheap timing light and a advance-able one? Are there advantages to one or the other for the cost?

#2 I don't have a eprom ECU in my 90 GST, but I would like some sort of logger. Do you need to have a eprom for DSM-LINK? Are there other loggers for use with no eprom? Should I spend my logger money on a eprom ECU instead?

#3 I've been having some problems with my DSM (like thats new), one after the other. Its a FWD. I've been searching and it seems motors are swappable from FWD's to AWD's. If I end up needing a block both should work, right. How many of you would just look for a AWD DSM, and use my FWD for parts?

Thanks much.

Are you just looking for a datalogger? In that case just get a cheap palm and cable ($30 on ebay) and download the software like MMcd or palmstein.

As far as the engine FWD and AWD are the same and can be easily swapped. Some people do like FWD, but I think most of us would agree AWD is the way to go. Its your preference.

You can use both timing lights to set intial timing, but you won't be able to read your timing advance with a basic timing light.

For the timing light I dont know the difference but they can usually lend you one at an auto part store.

You dont need an eprom ecu to use a datalogger but you do need one for dsmlink. For the datalogger all you need is a palm w/os3.5 or greater, a datalogging cable, and the software.

And yes, engine parts are swapable between awd and fwd but awd might make it easier when going for good time slips.
