hey guys im new to the forum ive been a honda guy for 8 years..last month i picked up a 98 awd tsi and ive been tryin to learn about it from this forum i know im supposed to search but its not easy and i have limited online time..i recently installed a boost guage..peak boost is about 9psi but after about say 5 on the tach i noticed my boost goes down is that normal?i also this morning took out the BCS restrictor i been reading about it..they said it would be good for maybe 1psi but i noticed no change in boost of feel anyone got a clue?thanx

its that actuator on the wastegate, so the turbo runs off the wastegate. The spring in there is set to around 9PSi and it wont creep. Look in the tech forums on how to do it the proper way. good luck man.

T25 can't hold boost past about 5,500 rpm. It's a weak turbo.
A good idea would be to do a boost leak test. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html
Make sure the arm from the wastegate is connected to the pin coming out of the exhaust side of the turbo. Do you have a manual boost controller hooked up to the car, or is it completely stock?

well i literally got the car about 3 weeks ago..all ive noticed is that they put on a k&n filter cuz i can hear the stock BOV so yes everything is stock the only thing i did was a boost guage by autometer i sell cars so i dont know if you guys are familiar but i work 6 days a week and sat and sun are mandatory. so i hardly get time to drive it. but im slowly learning from the forums its just extremely hard to learn so much in such limited time but yeah no boost controller i read that i dont really need one until i upgrade the turbo and supporting parts so im stock

I used to sell cars, I know how is it.
Yeah, you don't need a boost controller really. I was just asking just to make sure.
How far down is your boost dropping?

Don't worry soon enough you will be modding it like it's your job and spending money on it like it's going out of style. You will progressively learn more and more about the car until you can take it apart in your sleep... ROFL

This is completly true. keep reading and reading and well you know. I got my GST about 3 weeks ago. To your boost question I am not sure of the reason. I have not installed an aftermarket boost gauge yet so for all I know mine could be doing the same thing as yours. I am still having problems with finding those reched boost leaks. Good luck with your talon.

You sound like your sense of what is going on is good. Have a good read though our tech section and the upgrade paths that will give you an idea of where you want to go and what you want to do. You can add a boost controller to your current setup and turn it up a bit there is plenty of saftey net in the stock ecu for a few more psi. I would highly suggest since you got the car recently to do a good tuneup and check everything over before doing anything else. See when the timing belt was last done and fluids changed etc. Then start to add parts as you can and with your comfort level. :talon:

As far as thread searching goes. I found the easier way is to do the advanced search and search in Topic Title only. You will get infinatly better topics than if you just searched normally....usually with normal search it just looks for that word in any post on the thread. Searching titles weeds out the useless threads.
