when i decel and downshift, my car smokes and thats the only time it smokes. it smells like oil... what could be wrong?

You want to check your oil return line from turbo to oil pan. It might be bent, kinked, little loose, something obstrung flow. That is one of very few times, that turbo cars smoke only on decel. And usually the stock return lines, tend to crack in the flex section.

I forget which it is but it's either rings or valve seals.

One makes the car smoke on decel and the other makes the car smoke after it has been idling for a lil while. But i forget which is which.

Check for shaft play on your turbo. If the seals are going out, then vacuum under decel could be pulling oil out of the center section, either into the intake or directly into the exhaust.

Whenever I park my car at school in the morning a little bit of smoke or steam comes out of the hood cracks, it doesn't smell like much and the car temp is fine. What do you think it could be?

I usually drive about 10 miles on the freeway, then another ten to school on back roads.

First step in identifying any smoke problem is COLOR.

blue = oil
white = coolant/water
black = fuel

White is not always coolant. Sometimes when a turbo blows, the smoke produced by the oil burning is described as "greyish-white". Synthetic oils are more prone to smoke without a blue tint. The smell alone will give it away.

It could be a ring seal issue, I had an RS turbo'd and when i started loosing compression it would smoke on decel cause the high vac. and poor ring seal. The intake mani was sucking oil from the valve cover so i got a catch can and deleted the pcv and it helped.

Had that problem and ended up having to change my valve stem seals,fixed the dam smoke right away,lucky for me i am equipped with snap on power LOL and did it without pulling the head.
