What do i need to put back to stock?

I have these mods:

Punishment Racing 2.5" D.P. and Test Pipe-
AutoMeter A/F Gauge-
K&N AIR Intake (blood splattered)-
1g BOV-$50
DejonTool 2.75 Intake Pipe-
David Brode UICP (From SMIC to BOV)-
Home-made UICP (From BOV to 2G TB Elbow)-
Home-made LICP
2G DSI Intake Heat Shield-
2.5 inch catback-
Ractive High Flow muffler-
Turbo XS MBC-
VDO boost gauge-
Fuel pump re-wire-
Oil catch-can

I was required to reinstall the catalytic convertor (obviously), reinstall the 2G BOV, and reinstall the factory boost regulating system. They didn't care about anything else. Passed with flying colors.

Trying to clarify here....

I'm in cali too, and one day will need to smog mine, so I'm trying to read up on things to avoid doing to my car in order to pass smog with no visual issues.

Factory boost regulating system, you mean no boost controller of any type? Not sure..I understand.

They didn't care what kind of exhaust you had, as long as (1) cat was on there with stock O2's right?

Appreciate the help...

im guessing that he means that the stock boost control solinoid must be present, im sure if its out of sight, its out of mind as far as a mbc goes...

Great, just checking..... trying to play my cards right...as CA smog techs are smog nazis....for good reason, but I just want to avoid the obvious no-no's when modding out this car here in CA....

Thx, Ryan

I had to "shop" around to find a test only place for my car in Cali but I did so succesfully. The biggest thing that killed me was my 255 fuel pump. Even at -50% on my AFC I was still a grose pig polluter. IMHO, if you have a 255, you wont pass legally. I have heard of 190 guys getting away with it w/a few tricks but as to what they are I am clueless. Intake/FMIC wont matter as long as you have all the lines connected to the intake that stock setup has. Zip tie an mbc to the bottome of an ic pipe to keep it out of sight and you should be fine. You will definitely need a cat on there as well. A lot of guys are cool with BOV's given they are recirculated.

If you are worried, the day before your test, swap in a fresh set of plugs/wires, change your oil (a major thing that so many people overlook), and, if it is aged, a new o2 sensor will work wonders in the hydro-carbon department which is where many fail.

Take into account that I am AWD and therefore am exempt from the knock detecting dyno which is why one could feasibly get away with leaning out the AFC, correct if wrong, but it wouldnt work on FWD cars cuz the dyno would detect the knock produced.

Great info.

Yeah, it took me 3 tries the last few weeks to get my 93 Dodge 318 to pass smog. I pretty much replaced every smog item on the list, and it finally passed. Amazing. I'm getting fairly familar with some of the tricks....

I just purchased a 190, which is on the way, and will be running that. The only trick I can think of is sticking on a FPR if need be, and lowering the pressure down some during the test, otherwise the 190 should have little effect on the testing.

Will do on the MBC...

If I purchase UICP/Intake, I plan on leaving everything in stock configuration...no dumping to atomsphere or anything like that.

As for the exhaust, I planned on purchasing turbo back with a cat, but it seems even on RRE's site, they say the downpipe's are completely illegal to run on the street.

Will I not have an issue at the smog test, visually with an exhuast system, as long as it has a cat that is?

Also, it seems any intake with a cone filter is not smog compliant... too many issues... making me think twice about modding this car....

I wouldn't be purchasing an AFC until larger injects/turbo/some sort of IC go on...which is down the road by the way...

Thanks for the tips...

I havent had any trouble with my big ass hahn racecraft 3inch o2 eliminator/3 inch dp. And that sucker is HUGE. Smog techs havent even batted an eye. If you are still worried bushcur sells a big fat heat shield you can get unpolished for cheap that will keep that dp out of sight.

As far as intake goes, as long as its built right, you have should have no worries. Built right meaning you paid the extra few bucks from Dejon Tool to have all the "nipples" that come from the factory in your new pipe.

According to Appendix K Page 4 of the California Smog Tech Handbook (no bullshit) that any non factory intake is of "no concern" given "All factory evaporitve fittings are in place." Now you gotta give some smog techs a break, the BAR sits in their parking lot with lap tops and super zoom video cameras making sure these guys are doing their job to the "T". Do yourself a favor and if you do go with a big intake setup, make sure its powdercoated black and not chrome. Chrome will almost ALWAYS raise an eyebrow and shake a head. I have the KN FIPK and 3 inch dejon tool intake pipe in black and it looks well...plain, cept the carb sticker that came with the FIPK. Non DSMers think its stock and dont notice the huge pipe going into a huge turbo.

And for you cali guys, techs are nicer after 5pm, as BAR is a city job, and the city stops working at 5, after 5:15 most can stop looking over their shoulders, and let little insignificant things fly.

Great info/advice...

I noticed the K&N was the only filter that was CARB legal from what I can tell, the turbo version of the Injen is still pending.

I think I can purchase the extremepsi.com intake (it's $100 cheaper than the injen, and looks identical and will mount to the stock 2g) in black fittings, hoses etc, then paint the intake black since it's chrome/polished, then purchase the K&N filter pack with the CARB number, then be good. How does that sound? I believe the extremepsi.com intake has all the proper nipples to be in stock configuration. I will call to confirm.

As for the DP, will take your advice on that heat shield, hadn't thought of that.

How about the rest of the exhaust setup?

I take it as long as there is a cat in there, I should be fine right? I noticed there is a stock resonator in the system. That gets taken out when you purchase an exhaust system, will that be ok to the smog dudes, even if I have a cat and muffler in the rear? Looking at the RRE downpipe, cat, and then ApexN1 out the rear...when all said and done...

Appreciate the help, Ryan

when i first smogged my car.. i had ported big16g/3" turboback (with 3"hf cat), hks ssqv recirculated, dejon tool ic pipes, greddy bigfmic, k&n fpik, rre intake pipe, walboro 190lph, stock injectors and NO a/F control.. im in the bay.. i passed.. now i have a lot more stuff.. dunno if ill pass but i should be able to still..

helps that im AWD and dont have to go on the dyno

Red......dang, you had it easy... hopefully it will be that easy the next time through... :rocks:

I passed...YAAAAAAAAAAAY LOL! . It kicked my ass puting it back to stock and then back to aftermarket again. I have my straight pipe :shhh: on now and i love it.
