i have a 96 gst with a 1g head swap, 3" exauste, aftermarket cams, boosting 15psi. Can i pass smog? does any body know of a "good" smog tech in bay area. Thanks

Ah yes, good o'l smog time in cali....hell . What cams are you running? Just make sure you have no leaks and get that cat really really hot.

I passed recently with more mods than you (see profile), but I was running methanol instead of gasoline. I don't know if that had anything to do with it. Also, I'm AWD so I was exempt from the dyno. There's a thread about cheating emissions somewhere, but I can't find the link right now.

Even with a red hot cat, you have a slim to none chance of passing with aftermarket cams.

With hks 264/264's i passed. Dunno about the 272's. I went to my old high school auto teacher and used his smog machine :p. I was well under the limit at idle. It was the was the 2-2.5k rev that was hard. And i would pay extra for the pre-test. Its good insurance in case you fail. You don't want to get labelled "gross-polluter" then have to go to a test only center/ref.
