SMIC scoop

It directs the air directly thru the cooling section of the intercooler. It goes all the way right to the face of the intercooler. I left maybe a little more than and eighth of an inch gap between it and the intercooler. It is boxed in on all four sides. The airflow doesn't have anywhere else to go but thru the cooling fin section of the intercooler.

Combine your idea with DSMunknown's by using something as simple as a good round of duct taping around that 1/8" gap you mentioned. Best of both worlds. Have you done any splash guard modification to ensure you can evacuate the potentially "extra" air your SMIC now sees?

I am using stock ducting on the Dejon Tool Big SMIC with the duct tape method to ensure exactly what DSMunknown was getting at, the air is going THROUGH the IC and not anywhere else.

Yes on the duct tape. Seal that thing up. Like DSMunknown, I agree that once air is trapped in the shroud it works better, as it only has one way out. But having a larger opening ala the OP's mod is going to make a difference in how much pressure is applied to the air trapped in front of the core. And that's just going to help cool things off better, because the added pressure will force more air through.

PieEyedPiper, you are leaving about 2" of the IC core out of the picture if you have not modified the shroud. It took me about 30 minutes to modify it to fit the height of my Dejon smic so that the entire face of the core is getting airflow. That will definitely help bring your intake temps down a little more.

eliminated the power steering cooler and put part of the radiator shroud back in. Ran out of time, have to go pickup my daughter.

I think it would look better if you kept that body line on the front bumper that you blocked with that plate. Maybe a flat plate sunk slightly back into that hole would look better, just 1-2" back at the deepest.

Shoulda just left it stock. One of the best looking factory bumpers/front end and you ruined it for minimal gains.

This front end already was ruined. It held together with a wild assortment of sheetmetal and rivets. I bought it for 90 bucks thru trader and realized why it was 90 bucks when I got it. It took a lot of time to get it to look half way decent. It's hard to see but it has been overlain with two sheets of fiberglass. That's pretty much the only reason it's in one piece. It looks decent from a distance but still looks pretty rough up close. The backside of it looks like a nightmare. Frankenstein front clip. I do like the look of the stock 2Gb front clip and if this one had still been in good shape I probably would have left it alone.

Now it just looks like it has a toothache and a bump on it's forehead.

That's hillarious!

But I don't like it I have to say. It just looks wierd.

I WILL HOWEVER give you MAD props for doing it. It shows you are thinking outside the box, then taking the initiative to make it happen. On top of that you did good work and made it look like the time was put in. Congrats there!

Ah, i forgot you picked up a ruined front end.

What i would do is:

-if you are set on the scoop, keep working on it to make it look better.

-if you are not set on the scoop, go to ebay and spend 110 (when u have spare $) for a brand new primered 2g bumper. That's what i paid for mine shipped, came in like 2 days, modified it for my fmic and put it on the car, fits like a glove.

Ah yes, I forgot all about that. I modified mine, like yours, to accommodate for that extra space that the stock ducting omits. I managed to get all of it covered except for about 1/2". I was fine with that.

Good point, though.

Mad props for doing something unique. The thing you have to remember is at the end of the day your car is a reflection of you. So are you trying to make your car look a certain way to make everyone elses opinion happy? Or yours. Forget the haters. Rock it how you want to.:hellyeah:

Well. I bought a Vis evo carbon fiber hood. It's pretty clear that this has made tge intake scoop and the carbon trix hood vent obsolete. The hood has a very large vented area to extract heat.

Dang I'm stuck with iPhone as my only Internet connection right now. Can't get it to upload pictures to tuners. It's a VIS evo style hood. $440 +$120 shipping. Took a week n a year to get here from cali it was very well packaged. Very well protected. Double boxed. Flawless not a scratch on it. Very light. Also for people like me who live in snow country it comes with a detachable tray that screws in to the underside of the hood under the vent to keep a ton of snow from piling up on top of the motor. Fit is good. Had to finagle latch a little bit lower for it to fit.

I got the hood from andys auto sport in California. If you type that in it'll bring you right to them on google.
I'm still using the same front clip. It doesn't look as good as it did when I first fabbed up as I smacked into a snowbank drifting with friends last winter
