I am sick and tired of poeple sayin "YOUR SPENDING THAT MUCH ON YOUR CAR!!!! why not just sell it and buy a new car"..BECAUSE if i ought a new car i would have to come up with a nother 6 grand to fix it up+ some ....or poele who say to sell the n/a and buy a turbo..NO....finally he people who say that auto's suck....not true it is better to race with an auto that wayyuo don't mess up when you are shiften :dsm:

auto maybe a better car since it's easier on clutches, tranmissions and may be a better daily driver.
I disagree its a better race car though, actually i never never seen a "true race car" w/ auto. If you know how to drive you wouldn't have problem shiften

i agree, you have the right to do whatever you want being it is YOUR money....but racing with an auto tranny IS a disadvantage, especialy on dsm's. i don't know about the 1g's, but the 2g's automatic tranny's experience extensive problems. basically, the mistusbishi automatic tranny is crap. i've seen more tranny's die for no reason and most of them only have 50-100k miles. i can almost guarantee you that the stock tranny won't last on a decently modified engine. so don't be surprised to be shelling out $3k for a new tranny soon.

plus, an automatic dsm can be almost a full second slower than a 5-speed...that's a VERY signifigant difference in the world of racing.

I agree, as well. i konw there are cars out there with better auto or tiptronic tranny, such as benz, bmw, audi... but with dsms, it is better to have 5 speed.

although, auto's are great commute cars, but it isn't so good for racing.

I've heard 300zx and supra's are better to be auto if it's for drag racing only, since they'd have better traction. can anyone confirm this? or was the guy told me about it was just BSing?

I agree with Cucumber, do whatever makes you happy, if you try and please everyone else, not only will you be miserable, but you'll never succeed. Do your own thing, who gives a f@#k what everyone else thinks is best for you.

No offense, but you've obviously not seen many "true race cars". In the DSM world, Buschurs RWD Talon has a Powerglide auto, Glazers new mirage and Rau's Tube frame 2G both have 5 speed semi-auto (with slider clutches for the launch), not true autos, but also far from manual shift. In fact, the record setting 6 second 200mph drag barrier celica uses a Lenco 3 speed. On the domestic front, VERY fast drag racers have been using the 'glide as well as the Lenco and automatic 350 and 400 turbo trannys for years. Automatic/semiauto RWD transmissions are the most consistent and reliable trannys in use in drag cars. Sorry, this is not meant as a flame; just had to make this point.

I totally agree with you. But I think we're talking about not true race cars here though. As for dsm's without being the true race cars (not street legal), I think the 5spd is better of a race car than auto.

-true,you all are right. they are real race cars w/ auto I thinkin about rally, nascar, indy ect.

-but we are talking a street legal dsm here that would/may go to track on weekends. not Buschurs 7sec. talon.

-Anyway, everyone wont agree with your decisions.spend "your" money on your car. You learn from experience, In the future you'll know if it was woth it or not.
