Should this be visible from under the car? (flywheel?)

Alrigh! Here's for a completely newbie question...

What's the round toothed thing here:

And should it be visible from the underside of the car? The reason I ask is because it looks like the flywheel or something, and there's bolt holes around it that look like some cover has been taken off or something. Just curious.

Part 2:
Is that line coming off my oil filter housing the turbo oil feed? I can't see far enough into the engine bay to trace that line right now. Is the oil feed that small hard line, and then the oil return is the bigger crinkly one?

Sorry for the ignorant descriptions, I've read tons but never seen anything. Thanks, any feedback appreciated!

1. Yeah that is your flywheel there. Seems like the other owner might have taken if off or maybe forgotten to put it back on after some tranny work. Either way is good, doesn't affect it in any way.

2. Yeah that is your turbo oil feed line there. It goes between the motor and the turbo until it bolts on to the top of the turbo. The "crinkly" line is the oil return line that connects from the turbo to the oil pan.

I can't remember if you can see the flywheel from under the car but there should be a cover and would be a good idea to get one before some rocks or other debris finds it's way in there.

Wrong. If you get 'lucky' and get road debris in there it can cause damage, if not personal injury.

What a stupid piece of advice.

Yeah, it just seemed wrong to be able to see the flywheel from outside. I can just imagine a rock getting stuck. So now I gotta try to find a cover. What is that cover called? Flywheel cover? Having trouble finding it in CAPS.

Also, I don't know if I'm going to be able to find it at a junkyard here, slim pickings on the island. Anyone have a picture of what it's supposed to look like? (installed is fine). Thanks all.

This is one on a 1g,basically the same thing. I searched the gallery to find it.

Yeah, now I see what it's supposed to look like. It's basically just a flat cover that goes between the oil pan and flywheel? That 1G looks almost triangular, while mine looks rounded. Seems like 1G wouldn't fit. Gotta find someone with a 2G turbo parting out.

Also, I'm just curious. I've searched and found a lot about stainless oil lines (ie. fitment, install, etc), but nothing yet on the pros/cons of stainless vs. stock hard lines? I know with brake lines it helps avoid expansion for better feel, and for coolant avoids bursting under pressure. What benefits does it have for the turbo oil lines? Right now I'm probably getting a stainless oil feed line just in case, but I like to know what the benefits of each part are before I put them on. Thanks.

Yea, if you cant find one just get a small piece of tin/aluminum/sheet metal and some snips and just make your own, you dont have to be perfect with it. Anything is better than nothing.
