Should I swap engines or not?

Hey guys, I have a 97 Talon ESI with an engine in it. It has a misfire but it has been diagnosed to either fuel injection or a coil pack. The talon is extremely rusty and after further inspecting we figured that it is not worth repairing, so I set out to find a shell to drop my engine and transmission in. Oh and before everyone tells me to go turbo, this is my first car and I have to pay for insurance so I plan on keeping a N/T until I have a better job so I can build up a project turbo car. Anyway, I quickly found a 95 eclipse gs, no rust, has the engine and tranny in it still. The guy said that the head gasket is blown, but as soon as the fluids started mixing he parked it. So my question is, should I swap engines and fix the misfire, or should I just replace the head gasket and head on the eclipse from my talon? I'm leaning towards doing that to save from the time and hassel of swapping the whole engine. What do you guys think? :hmm:

Me personally I would just swap your engine in. Your will probably be better off this way 1 you know you engine is in better shape, 2nd if the other engine is already milking (fluids mixing) it could be worse off then you think. The head could be warped, maybe a cracked block. Just save yourself the time and swap the motors

Well the eclipse has less miles than my Talon. My talon has 120,00 and the eclipse is around 100,000 if I remember correctly, they guy said nothing was warped, but I would still like to check it out. Even if I did swap heads and the engine blows down the road I will keep my talon engine around, just in case. I just want this thing done....I've been waiting forever to get this thing going

Lol I bought a 91 and the person I bought it off said the samething but he was wrong dropped 900 to rebuild it was to warppped to have machined. But yeah it would provably be easier to go the route that you are already thinking and you have a extra motor if things go wrong. Good luck with all that

There is no way the guy would know if anything was warped without taking the head off and straight edging the head and block.

Are you mechanically inclined? Ever done a HG or engine swap? IF you done alot of work to your talon engine(tbelt, waterpump, maintenance, etc) id fix the misfire first.. and then swap them. If the seller of the eclipse is an honest guy and took care of his car, and oil isnt nasty sludged up, then id fix the HG problem.

If the rust on your talon aint too crazy, eating up your suspension or subframe, i would just fix the misfire and drive it till it falls apart then buy a 4G63T equipped car.

Well the rust is way to bad, You can check one of my threads, pics are in there, but I'll make sure to check the oil and see what ways better to go from there
