Should I put my new turbo on my new motor?

If its a larger turbo than stock, I tend to say always break in your new engine, whether it be built up or not. Or if you don't have a smaller turbo to put on take it really easy on it. Don't boost too much and just try to nicely break it in. So if you can, use the old stocker and break in the new engine for a few hundred miles, then put on the new turbo. But it does depend on the size of the new turbo. If its just a 16G then put it on first.

I believe in the concept of breaking it in hard, I'm just worried the new motor might spit out a little shard and break my new turbo.

I've read that too. I too think breaking it in hard on the first few starts is a good thing, to seat the rings properly. However, after the first few times, take it easy on it for a few hundred miles just make sure it runs good and strong at all rpm ranges. But I do still think you should use the old smaller turbo. BTW, what turbo are you running?

I plan on doing the dyno break-in procedure and then just driving it normally as a commuter

Tuned to 20 PSI or some thing. I ended up with the turbo in my sig, there was some debate between a gt3040 but slowboy sent my turbo finally and it's going to be a garrett GT3076R.

I'm with this guy.but i would break it in all the way to 1000 miles.A Dyno is a great way of blowing up your engine,since the dyno only simulates the load that the road puts on your car.just take it easy,maybe a few not so long road trips at 55-65mph.take it easy and she'll thank you later.
 
Break the engine in before you put the new turbo on. You don't want any debris that comes loose during the break-in process to ruin the bearings on your turbo.

Thats what I'm thinking. I almost want to purchase some old 50 or 60 trim to beat on just for the break in.....
 
the load on the engine on the dyno isn't the same as the load your engine sees in the road.Now if their running your engine at 3-4K rpms constantly on the dyno for hours to break it in then OK,i can see why you would do that,But doing a whole bunch of WOT runs on a engine that hasn't been broken in on the rollers,just doesn't seem like a good idea to me.Post the link where you got that information from,I would love to hear more about it.
 
wow,thats an interesting link.I hadn't heard of this before,and i saw a few motorcycle/gocart engines freeze up on the Dyno.The mot ones were on tape,but the go kart ones were live.I don't know who to believe now.what the guy say sounds good and makes sense.I'm gonna pass this info to my buddy that runs karts and is a mechanic for a very long time and see what he thinks about it.
