should i get a data logger? and if so...

is there a real cheap one out there that can do everything i need that can connect to a laptop? i cant exactly afford a palm right now, so id rather use the laptop thats laying around if possible.

but the reason i ask if i should get one is cuz im a dsm newbie. i just got a stock '92 gsx and im not sure if a data logger is needed yet... thanks guys.

the laptop doesnt have a serial port on it. is there a serial to usb adapter or a sub version of the logger?

i think i am going to get a palm pilot... i just saw some palm m100 on ebay for like $10 + S&H. are the m100 good/fast enough for logging?

Only thing I can say bad about the cheaper Palms is that if they done have a recharable battery in them and the battery dies, you will loose the software and all logs. You will have to put new batteries in and load the software again. If I were to do it again I would get a Palm that charges itself on the cradle.

Also get one that is backlit so you can log at night.

1 more thing.... what is the diff between these two besides the connection. i guess if i get the one on ebay, i dont need a serial port?

i just bought a palm m105 for like 30 bucks and bought data logging cord for 55 so i spent about 85 dollars and i am happy with so the setup is less than 100. the only thing i would suggest is find a datalogging cord for cheap that uses the palm its good for what you want to do at this level

but doesnt the m100 use AA batteries which would make it non-rechargeable?

yes it uses AA - but there are such things as rechargable AA's
