Should I buy??? Help!

I just sold a 96 talon 420a and would like to buy a 2g 4g63. Still new to the dsm world so please bear with me. My question is should i buy this particular car? It's a 1997 eclipse gst it has minimal rust and has some mods to it such as exhuast, intake, short throw, things of that nature. I like the car but my only concern is the mileage. It has 225,000 miles on the body, the owner says it was rebuilt 10k miles ago by owner before him. So he has no proof of it being rebuilt. It runs good and engine seems strong. I just don't want to buy it and have it take a dump on me because of the high mileage (assuming it was never rebuilt) I'm not sure what to do, the price is pretty reasonable to all the other ones around my area. If someone could give me there input on it, it would be much appreciated.

Look on here for a car. With rust and the miles that is way more than I would pay for it. Look for a awd car

a couple rules about buying used cars

1.) dont believe anything without paperwork. as far as your concerned that engine has 225k on it cause he showed no proof of it being rebuilt.

2.) they will tell you anything to get rid of that car. it was rebuilt because it was clearly beat on/not taken car of. your buying their headache!

if i were you, dont jump into buying a car, it took me 6 months before i found one that seemed reasonably priced, wasn't a dump, and ran good. deals are out there you just need to look harder.

Dont get me wrong it runs good and ya he probably couldve took better care of the car but it doesn't need anything as of right now. i can chew him down to probably 2600 maybe. just wanted others opinions because the mileage is pretty scary

lowballing is key also, most sellers (parents used to own a garage and radio store so i've seen it plenty) will charge maybe $500-600 more than what they can realistically get because they know your going to lowball them around a price they were expecting so instead of negotiating they take it.

I agree don't be too anxious when buying a car, I bought mine and its turning out to be a nightmare but i'm so far into it I have to keep going or i'm loosing major money. A few keys
1. Look at the car during the day, this allows you to more easily spot any problems/rust/ decay/etc. If your lookin at it during the night make sure to have a bright enough light to see everything
2.Drive the car for no less than 8-10 miles, this gives the car more time to warm up and gives you a idea of what your gonna be driving
3. Check the engine oil, a good car owner knows that you need to change your oil several times a year. If you pull out the stick and its black you can get more of a idea of the owner and how they treat vehicles

I agree with the other guys, it took me like 8 months to finally find a decent GSX and the owner actually had paperwork showing the engine was rebuilt. Without paperwork their word means nothing. To be completely honest if it were me i'd probably just not get the car, if you're already having major doubts its probably a good idea to just step away from the car, its worth it in the long run to get a GST or GSX you know is solid instead of risking you're financial well being on a car that could crap out on you at any second because of the high mileage.

+1 when I bought mine, the seller had several pics of the motor being removed with all rebuild pics
