Should FittipaldiTalon sell his one-off car to a museum?

Who else here thinks FittipaldiTalon should sell that one-of-one Fittipaldi Special Edition Talon prototype to a museum? I mean, yeah, it is his car to do what he wants with. But selling it to some random on Ebay could, and probably will, place it in the wrong hands and it could end up in some fender bender, or even worse, totaled. Or to some bunk ass who has too much money and run it into the ground and let it rot in some pasture, or some idiot who will rice it out. Any spoiled rich kid's parents could buy this for their son/daughter. Also it is for sale to the general public, who knows or cares nothing about that iconic car, and really wouldn't appreciate what he has, and just has it to say he has it and try to get laid with it. So who's with me? I say put it in a good home where it will be appreciated by auto enthusiasts form across the entire country and even across the world!

I'm with you there. My uncle wants to buy it. Hes hesitating because his rare vehicles are taking all the spots and there would be no room for one such as this .

I would of gotten to drive it I was exited .

This car isn't exactly a collector's car. It has 51,000 miles on the clock. Most people don't know who Fittipaldi even is (truthfully, I don't).

To the general public, this just looks like another Eclipse with a body kit. It doesn't exactly have show stopping looks.

At this point, drive it until the wheels fall off.

The price he's asking is not that much. Why don't some hardcore dsmer buy it so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. I would buy it in a heart beat if it was in Canada. It would be good investment too if you can get for about 10k.

Those are good points. But it has all of the documentation and such proving what it is and that it is a one of one prototype. That alone is enough for a museum to take interest in it. A museum wont really care about the mileage, lots of the cars they have have higher mileage. They just don't mention the miles on the plaque they have by it.

I think he should, I'd love to see it preserved. If it's still for sale in a month or so I'd be willing to buy it and at least store it in the garage. It's where my 92 is staying/ getting restored

I can see both sides. It would be nice to see it preserved in a safe enviroment like a museum, but then again why not have someone enjoy the car and let the car be driven.

Mileage don't matter...it's the overall condition of it...I totally agree I think it should be in a museum...hell I think any dsm with no clear coat fade and original paint after 20 years should be in a museum ....but seriously to the f-in idiot at best buy who screwed the fuse box over the vin plate.....were looking for you buddy I think half the forum wants to see that guy in a dark alley ....besides the fuse box/vin plate deal, that car is mint (that or the kid takes good pictures)

No museum is going to buy it. I'm sure if MMNA wanted they would have made an offer by now. But hey, it is an Eagle so maybe they just don't care for it's history. It would be nice if a DSMer from this site gets it and not some random kid that doesn't know it's history or even anything about DSMs for that matter.

I only hope that FittipaldiTalon directs the buyer to this site, but I won't hold my breath due to all the bashing in the other thread about him and his car.

If a car like that ends up in a museum there won't be too many people, if anyone having their kid as "what is that?" and go "ooooo, that's a DSM, a very rare car built by Mopar and Mitsubishi." It deserves more to be kept in a heated room by a collector to sell in auction in 30 years. Still probably won't score that much down the line.

Galant vr4's arent dsm's A dsm has a sticker in the door jamb, and on the firewall that says DSM made in usa. A galant is made in Japan by mitsubishi.

It's not that special. Body kit and some upholstery. Fittipaldi didnt win a race in it, he didnt die in it, hell, who knows if he even drove it? It's not a piece of history, its still just a car. Does it look a little nicer than the average 1G? Sure.

If it's any consolation to you, I think the asking price will scare away anyone who knows nothing about the car or some spoiled rich kid. What random person or spoiled kid wants a 20+ year old car for the price of a much newer one?

VR4's aren't DSM's

our Vr4 started production in 88, so, thats before the DSM era. All of your DSM's were created using our parts .

The Shitquest/Starion was a DSM IMO, before the Galants became anything worthwhile. Diamond-Star Motors started in 1985, with trace roots of the partership existing in the 1970s. It actually still exists, but as Mitsubishi Motors North America. It never ceased to exist, Mitsubishi just bought shares back from Mopar, but they still cooperate. The Galant is, to me, still a DSM. In Canada the Galant was the Dodge and Eagle 2000GTX. The 3000GT is, to me, a DSM. It existed as the 3000GT and the Stealth. They may not have the badges saying they are DSMs, or they may have no been manufactured in Illinois, but clearly DSM had everything to do with selling the cars. It's not like these cars were just simple rebadges, they were completely different looking, still sharing a chassis.
