Some where on cardomain I think I saw a mod that forced air from the skirt to short air ram intake, using sheet metal and such. Anyone seen these?

sheetmetal is cheap, but! you'd be a lot better off with getting a full CAI system. it costs more but its a lot better than sheetmetal or a short ram. the point is to get cooler air into the engine. short ram intakes a too short. they take the air right out of the engine compartment and thats hot, thats no good. u want to take that pipe lower under the car, in that area the air is coolest with a moving vehicle. at first i wanted to get a ram intake, i thought its all the same shit, 3 inch pipe, filter whatever. but after looking at it i noticed that it sits point blank to the engine in my car and the filter would be right by the exhaust pipes, the hottest part of it all. that was a dumb thing on my part, i returned the intake and got a full CAI system. its a much longer pipes and it goes low and forward, almost into the bumper. the filter sits low to the ground but not so low as to clip objects on the road. if anything gets hit it'll be the bumper, i adjusted it. all i need to do now is to get a heatshield on the filter. theres not much heat there but i wanted to protect it from the dirt, rocks and some water splashes. a CAI system is a good investment. if ur not bent on performance like me, just get a whatever pipe, its close enough, theyre all about the same inside, they dont polish them to a mirror so theyre supersmooth, ur just looking for a pipe thats been bent for u already so u dont have to do it urself. good luck

Thankz for the reply but I did not ask anything about CAI. I asked if anyone could find that site I was looking for.

nooo it looked to me like you were asking if anyone has seen this done or done it themselves. get a CAI

no one can answer your question as you can see. around here there are a few questions that get answers like that... :thumbdown

he wants info on a sheetmetal ram-air intake. i presuming that he would like a hood-cutout with sheetetal and weather stripping to seal it to the hood so that he can have true ram-air intake. he only wanted info on it, nothing abou CAI....as bother have there uses, ups as well as downs.

gimme a few mins, ill search for ya and hopefully find a better answer that you acrually are looking for. :D :dsm:

He asked if anyone had seen it. But none the less, you didnt help much either.

edit: http://www.turbo4wd.com/Custom/customcoldair.htm theres one with sheetmetal like you said but like those other links it is for the 4g63. Still on the quest for one for the n/t

Ya dude it was just like that but for a short ram air. You guys are just as bad as the turbo guys saying sell ur N/T buy a turbo.

ya, the guys with CAI have always looked down on the short ram... sell you car and get a CAI... that gets thrown around alot

I have cai w/ a ram effect LOL. I have the pipe going ALL the way down to the bottom right hole (to the right of the fog light) of the front bumper. Works well, i like it alot.

No. No one in the history of mankind has ever done such a thing.

:thumb: just kiddin. All you'd need is a filter, some 3" pipe, a few silicon connectors, and a mandrel bender...an intake tube is just like a cat back in terms how you want to build and bend it, in the end you're looking for the best possible flow.

Now this is just a stupid idea, but NX makes a kit to "freeze" your intercooler by spraying C02 (i think) on it....wonder if that would work on an air filter?? Would the power gains even be worthwhile? Just tossin it out there. :dsm:

I think the one your talking about uses nitrous so in effect it would just send nitrous into your filter basically just becoming a inefficent dry kit...at least i think so

no, he's talking bout the cryogenic intercooler cooler.its too little spray nozzles that shoot co2 into the atmosphere right were the IC is to lower the temp hense, cold air= more power theory

On a filter it would be bad. That would mean Co2 was getting sucked in. Co2 displaces o2. BAD

heres the setup i have... no sheet metal or nuthing but works good

Here's mine.

I could have done a better job sealing off the filter, but hey, it can't hurt either.
