I've searched and gathered alot of info on doing the swap but this is too much for me to handle. I wanted to know if there is any dsm shops in the tri-state area that performs these conversions and how much am I looking at?

If you get all the parts and find a good dsm shop you will be looking around $800-$1500 in labor alone, and around $2500 for the parts, used. So proley around $4000 to have it done right. Best bet is to sell your fwd and get an awd dsm. This task is just as much of a pain in the azz as putting a turbo on a non-turbo car and doing it the right way.

look into buying an AWD. if you can find a decent deal on an awd buy it and sell ## fwd... saves u alot of pointless work IMO if there are AWD cars out there already....

I would imagine almost triple that. It's a lot of labor, man.

Well labor lets see, Trans swap$350, I belive the shifter linkage is differnt also lets say $175, rear axle assembley install $400, and all other bs add another $400 thats, $1325 in just labor, plus tax, you can get an awd dsm for that. And this is all if it is a DSM shop that knows what they are doing and can do it in a good amount of time, take to a shop that does not know what they are doing and they will spend more labor hours on it then ya $double in labor.

It's really easy to do. It won't take that long. If you know of somebody with a welder or has one. You'll be done in no time. Assuming your somewhat mechanically inclined.

AWD tranny, transfer case, driveshaft, rear assembly, AWD exhaust routing and AWD gastank. May be a few more parts to do the swap. If you have a shop do it, it'll be pretty costly. There is a reason a lot of people don't do the swap and just buy an AWD shell. If you do choose to do it, I would do it to a spyder with a 2gb Talon conversion :thumb:

ATX Motorsports in Bergenfield is a great shop but that will be a very hefty bill regardless of where you go

I would do it if it was a spyder but other than that just buy yourself an AWD.

I'd do it if he lived closer as well. God knows I could use the extra cash right now.

But the AWD swap is one of those things that you do yourself to save money. Because if you're paying for the swap, then you very well could end spending more than what it costs to buy an AWD car.

I can't remember his exact name, but jgrizz, has a spyder gst that was converted to awd.

There was another member who had a fwd 1gb that he had forever and just had to make it awd. He bought an awd shell, and swapped the entire rear ends. Searching should find him.

You guys need to remember the fuel sending units are in different locations too, which I'm pretty sure that means a swap of gas tanks.

If you ain't doin the conversion yourself ,then its really not worthed.Yaou will spend at least 2k in a parts, plus the same amount or even more for a labor..... For 3k you can find a really nice 2G AWD Shell.Just think about it.....

"if" you can find one. Seriously 75% of the shells you see sit in a yard with a tree branch through the window...

Bringing this back from the dead. I understand that having a shop do the swap costly. How does the cost of doing the awd swap compare to the cost of having your whole set up put into an awd shell. For example, I have a pretty built gst, built motor and all that. Would it be cheaper to convert to awd or just take my entire set up and put it into an awd dsm?

i i said before, get an awd shell, drive your GST till you find an awd shell, I had a gst before (2g) and my friend gave me an awd shell (gutted out to the frame, had nuttin in there) so i swaped the whole (black) interior, headlights, taillights, bumpers hood, hatch, engine to the awd shell. all i had to buy was a tranny, driveshaft, suspension, awd brakes (bigger calipers 2 piston) and thats it,spent near 1500 for the parts, and everything did myself, took me a good month (including spent time looking for parts) ;) There is a thread on my build....

The cost of the swap heavily depends on how much you pay for the donor car. I would guess that the AWD swap would be a bit more work and money, but not much more, so my best advice would be to use whichever shell is in better condition.
